Imagine has to be one of the top 5 songs all of time. No matter how many times I hear it I never tire of it.

Shame about Lennon, but he & The Beatles must surely be the most over rated group ever.

Paul McCartney was much better n his own, Pipes Of Peace and The Frog Song are well good. :p

If he hadnt been shot and that song consequently not been no.1 for about 9 months after, it would barely register on the public consciousness. It never ceases to amaze me how easy it is if you tell people something is world class they end up believing it. Dont get me wrong if you like it you like it, no shame there, but the mass received wisdom of it as one of the greatest songs ever written is laughable.

See Roy Keane thread for further details of people believing any old guff and myths if repeated often enough.

Nope sure, nowhere in that I am saying he wasnt involved in writing some of the best pop songs you will ever hear. Its just the mindless cattle like reaction to Imagine that gets on my tits.

Only someone who uis too young to have known the Beatles at their height would say that. You clearly have no idea what a revelation they were at the time. Their music has been copied by so many. I don't profess to be a Beatles fan but I can recognise the importance of both Lennon and McCartney in popular music today.

Frankly, if they're overrated what does that say for what came after ?

I wasn't around when they were, I wasn't born until 1972 but have had to listen to people say that they are the best ever since then, and a lot of people (maybe not the ones on here) just say this because of the murder. If he hadn't been shot people wouldn't talk about them half as much as they do now.

I do accept that musicians are influenced by them, Oasis for example (I only like one of their songs - Champagne Supernova). Even Take That have a Beatles influence in "Shine", no coincidence then that "Shine" is one of my least favourite Take That songs.

I have to say, I can’t help felling a little uncomfortable with grown men (?) championing a teeny boy Band.

And furthermore trying to compare them favorably to a great band from which a lot of music and band have evolved. Take that and The Beatles do not belong in the same sentence.
