What a waste of wages on Kirtley, since the second remodelling of his action it has been clear he has lost a lot of pace and batsmen have worked out his slower ball and his yorker. So why are we wasting money on him, seemingly he was the third highest player last year.

Because, as he proved towards the end of the Pro40 season, that in the 1 day game he is still very effective. By 'job sharing' him and Jason Lewry they free up a full contract for someone else.

But he is not job sharing with Lewry, he has been give a full contract, so unless it is on severly reduced terms (about 70%) it is not worth the money. Over the last 3 seasons he has shown he is not up to proper cricket and even in the 20/20 last year he was getting hit all over the place. Those wages could have been used much better elsewhere, especially as there seemed to be other counties stupid enough to want him.
