Kuipers -7 would have been a six, but did well in the shoot out
Whing -6 - Struggled with Demitriou a couple of times when he drifted out left
Richards - 7 - A couple of good crosses. Not a bad performance
Elphick - 7 - Some great challenges. Made up for The Hawk
Hawkins - 4 - Some truly shocking moments. Lost their striker for the first goal, caught out for the penalty, should have been sent off for a professional foul. Not fit though...
Cox - 6 - Started brilliantly, very influential, then faded
Savage -7 - His influence on the game waned in the second half. My first sight of him in the stripes and he won me over
El Abd - 6 - Distribution let him down. Kept his nerve with the winning penalty
Thornton - 5 - I was very disappointed. Cox did more in he first ten minutes than Thornton did all game
Anyinsah - 7 (MOM) - Great first half, took his goal well. Faded badly in the 2nd and kept getting caught offside.
Virgo -6.5 - Good first half, lacked support in the second half. Won everything in the air and looked more comfortable up front than in midfield.

Robinson - 6 - The usual performance from Jake
MA - 6 - Did well with a makeshift front pairing. Surprised to see us sit back and revert to 4321 with so long to go
Chips - 6 - Good but too much ketchup. My fault really.

I'll go with that, though maybe you're a tad generous for Richards. Got turned a few too many times.

So.... Thornton wasn't good. That's a shame as he was great against cheltenham. I still think we'll lose agains leeds regardless, if we don't have forster and murray. But I'm going anyway

And do you think hawkins should be dropped As I didn't go last night and only listened to parts on the radio.

Thornton got MOM but Anyinsah was definately the stand out player. Not too big but looked strong and quick. Obviously trying to prove a point to Alan Irvine. Also you could tell Savage has prem quality. His vision and passing was so much quicker.

I thought Thornton did very well. But Anyinsah played proper MoM stuff.

Kuipers 6 - Poor kicking again and looked lost for their 1st
Whing 6 - struggled with the pace they had down the flanks distribution was poor
Richards 6 - as above
Elphick 7 - won everything he had to well taken pen
Hawkins 5 - Good in the air but looks awful when players are running at him
Cox 6 - started well but became predictable and was snuffed out of the game
Savage 6 - Played at training ground pace and was very deep but few good touches
El Abd 6 - solid won tackles but with savage so deep limited out creativity
Thornton 7 - started well good touches and look dangerous going forward. Moved inside later in the game and looked lost
Anyinsah 8 - pace, power, ran the channels worthy of a start against Leeds
Virgo 7 - won plenty of flick ons and despite lack of service led the line well when he was up top on his own for last 20 min

Robinson 5 - when does not make an impact off the bench you worry about the future of mr robinson
MA 6 - they changed formation at half time but without Forster and Murray and 3 central midfielders on the bech we lacked options to change the game so reverted to trying to see out the win.

Kuipers - 6 - At fault for the first goal Should have saved the penalty
Whing - 6 - solid didnt stand out, didnt do anything wrong
Elphick - 7 - solid, and covered a lot for the injured Hawkins
Hawkins - 5 - He is terrible because he is injured, so why keep picking him. Gave away the penalty for the equaliser
Richards - 6 - got skinned a few times, one great last ditch challenge and set up Anyeboahs goal
Thornton - 7 - great for the 1st 20 minutes, and faded away. Real live wire, not sure about MOM
Savage - 7 - kept playing only using one touch, obviously a class above us, and put in some meaty challenges.
El Abd - 6 - looked like a centre back out of position, caught in pocession a lot. His game plan was to win the ball and give it to Savage
Cox - 6 - played really well for first 10 minutes. Taken off set pieces. Too predictable running towards the byline, and cutting back on his right foot
Virgo - 7 - Not a centre forward, but did a job. He won most headers from all the long balls we sent to him, though not many turned into flick ons of any use. Took his penalty well
Anyakubu - 8 - Love his Ghetto Bootay, defenders just bounce off it. Great goal, and caused havoc upfront for 50 minutes before fading away

Robinson - 5 - done nothing of any note

He was offside every time, there werent even any borderline ones

Sorry mate but that bit is completely wrong. It was a decent stop with hard hands which is exactly how it should be done. (Softer hands would have lessened the spin but could have meant the ball going through the hands.) Unfortunately it spun back over his left shoulder. He had no chance whatsoever of getting back to it.

Maybe so, but if he actually got hard hands to it, the ball would have gone behind the goal for a corner, or back out into the penalty box (which may have led to their striker putting it anyway)

Dont get me wrong, I love Kuipers, think he is a legend, but I just think he should have saved the penalty

Also he was off his line more than the Orient keeper, when he saved the penalty in the shoot out

Whing -6 - Made a couple of good tackles, not much going forward
Richards - 6 -A decent enough game, again took a pressure penalty
Elphick - 6 - Nothing outstanding, but then you don't expect that from him
Hawkins - 5 - Some decent headers but clearly not match fit
Cox - 6 - Excellent for first 15 minutes, confidence disappeared as soon as things started going wrong
Savage -7 - His awareness was second to none. First touch football was a joy to watch.
El Abd - 5.5 - I like El Abd but this wasn't one of his better games. Poor Distribution. Stepped up to take winning spot kick though when others probably bottled

Of course some of them were borderline, I'd suggest that the lino got it wrong on a couple of those occasions.

Where the ball strikes the hand(s) is often a matter of luck and you are delighted just to get hands to it. You are very, very demanding.

As for him being off the line for the shootout, it was a good save, as he was diving the wrong way. He shouldnt confess, I was just making an observation as thats why Virgo's penalty was retaken

As I said you are incredibly demanding! A fraction of inch at the point of impact can make a huge difference in the trajectory of the ball after that and a keeper has no chance to compensate for that.

If Cech or Buffon had done exactly the same thing I wouldn't have criticised them for it.

If FDM had chosen, in advance, which way to go and dived to his left, it would have been a goal and no-one would have criticised him. He makes a great effort at a save and he gets criticised. I don't understand it.

FDM and his colleagues make more than enough real mistakes - we don't need to invent more!

Thornton wasn't anywhere near his superb performance on Saturday for me last night. He seemed to have gone down with a bout of the Robinsons ( knocked off the ball far too easily ). I think he was uncomfortable being switched with Coxy too. How Thornton got MOM was beyond me when Anyinsah was so obviously on fire last night. Still, I love watching both players and still think Thornton is really something special at this level.
