I know our league record reads L-D-L-D-D for our last five games, but after the performance on Saturday I feel quite optimistic about our chances this season.

Strikers are both getting goals. We've established that wingers will help. Even without the loan players (McLeod and Thomson to return) we are working out our best midfield formation. The defence (Whing, Elphick, Hawkins/Virgo, Richards) have had the odd off game, but they are fundamentally a good back four at this level. Whilst we have given away four point in the last 30 seconds of the last two games, we're playing better. Those four lost points would have put us just outside the play-off spot already.

We're a point behind where we were last season - a season that blew up in March. That won't happen again with MA. I'm confident of a play-off spot in May.

Exactly if we had not leaked that last minute goal people would be viewing Saturday as progress. Need to tighten up at the back and get a settled starting eleven and we will push on.

I'm shocked to hear that we actually played quite well considering the result. Still, we'll need consistency if we're going to challenge. And aren't you in the least bit worried that we haven't won a single home league game yet? :nono:

For whatever reason we have always seemed to play better away. The home form will come and the performances have been getting better even if the results have not.

They will come and when they do if we can maintain our away form then we will start clawing back the lost ground

Hmm that's a bit of a pointless point. If we hadn't conceeded any goals all season we'd be top of the league.:dunce:

The irony is that at the start of the season the defence was solid and we were struggling to score goals. Now all of a sudden we (or should I say Glenn Murray) are scoring plenty of goals, but we can't keep them out.

On the positive side, at least Murray's hattrick should hold off any more shit threads from Gareth about his workrate.

No chance Simster. Give it until the next game where Murray dosen't score and it will start again. US is way fickle where Murray is concerned.

It is getting a bit late into the season for us to say the home form will come, we have 23 home games a season, we have to win at least 15 of them to have a chance of going up (Adams said so himself). We have only 18 left. We won 12 I think last year and missed out on the play offs by 7 points.

I am feeling optimistic, but it is getting a bit late. We need to drop the clearly unfit Hawkins who is costing us goals ever time he plays.

We need to play Virgo in central defence or drop him. And we need to continue to build the team around Murray and his stregths

I'm still just about keeping the faith.

In the Argus today it highlighted how late goals have cost us

Yeovil
Northampton
Cheltenham

all games we were winning until very late goals pegged us back.

6 points gone. We may rue those games come May next year.

Still a nice win at Leeds will get my confidence levels rising. :albion2::albion2:

Have to agree with that point. At beginning of the season (before Hernia) Hawkins was immense winning everything in the air and leading our defence. Now he seems to still be off the pace, 1st half on Saturday was worrying to watch as he seemed to be carried by Elphick far too often. Like Hawkins as a player and the competition he brings to the squad but there's nothing wrong with a couple of reserve games to get back to fitness before being put back into the first team.

I'm a big fan of Virgs and Elphick at centre back and dont see many negatives with playing a CB at his best position!

Elphick wasn't too great either!

I don't think we need to build the team around any one player.

We do need to build the team into a team though.

Elphicks form is on the up - Hawkins is unfit - get Virgo in there

He really hasn't been too great this season, apart from one or two games. How can you say his form is on the up when he didn't play very well on Saturday, yet you think Hawkins didn't play well either, then you say he should be dropped, one rule for one player one for the other. And that's not just directed at you, it's to people saying something similar.

FAir enough, I see where your coming from. Just when we have played to Murrays strengths he has scored goals.

Last season, we used him well and he bagged 9 goals. This season we havent used his strengths nad he became a bit uneffective. Since we have signed Thornton and Anyinsah, they have provided him with the service he needs to score goals, and indeed he scored goals. Tommy Fraser did it the most out of all the midfielders we used.

Thornton and Anyinsah have come in, and are players that use Murrays stregths really well, and its no coincidence Murray has started scoring as a result.

Just need Adams to realise he doesnt have to play Hawkins or Virgo, and we will be looking good for the season*

*well end of October, until the good players go back to their clubs
