I'm guessing he wasn't born in the UK then? It maybe that Zola Budd represented SA before she came over here, and her repatriation was rushed through so she could compete for the UK. That caused a storm, rightly, and meant that she was centre of attention. I doubt many people know anything about this bloke, or at least didn't before today.

Good work from the TRUE BRIT

Obviously if he'd not medalled he would have been back to being a Jamaican. :lolol:

Strangely, he doesn't even have an athletics club to train at!

How could she be repatriated if she was South African?

Ok, repatriated is the wrong word, but she was able to apply for citizenship through a grandparent. In answer to your original point though, this caused a massive controversy because of apartheid. This bloke hasn't created a ripple until now.

You can add Judgey, Alan Lamb and even to an extent KP's relationship with England to be borne out of apartheid. They personally had very little if anything (even by proxy) to do with upholding the apartheid regime. Some very stupid people gave them a very hard time. This fella did not cause a ripple no, that is why I ask where the double standard merchants are now.

And courtesy of the Daily Mail if I remember correctly.

yes it was all very unseemly and embarrassing. As were some of the threatening protests aimed at a very young and naive young woman. What makes me laugh is the well done lad attitude to this bloke who has dropped his own country like a hot brick.
