As an absentee from **** actually,all of these posts are brilliant.

I have to say that for my bus pass birthday recently mrswombat treated me to a helicopter flight over Brighton and Hove.

It is a truly beautiful and brilliant city in a marvelous setting,AND it has the best football team in the universe.

I have great childhood memories of playing football on the green on Mackie Avenue in Patcham. Also cycling along the dirt track along the back of the houses along Braeside Avenue, before the bypass was even thought of!

Summer holidays seemed to last forever in those days.

i like victoria street best, would love to live there, ice white houses with palm trees outside on a steep hill with the channel on the horizon.

i like the whole clifton/south seven dials area a lot, the big houses are stunning on montpelier villas but the top floor flats around powis road and st. michaels road appeal equally.

One of my favourite areas of Brighton is the Seven Dials. I like the fact that it is close enough to stroll into town but out enough to have a community feel to it. I like the mix of pubs - modern such as Tin Drum and traditional such as The Prestonville. There is a good mix of restaurants such as Red Snapper and Murasaki and it is close to St Annes Well Gardens (despite it being full of modern parents!).

What are your favourite areas and why?

I lived in a bedsit in Seven Dials in 1978; with the Dials cafe, Wonder Bar and Tucker Bugger it was a classy neighbourhood

Preston Park - dead handy for The Brewery Tap, The Crown & Anchor, Harleys, Jenny's Fish & Chips, the launderette, couple of decent offies, chemist on the corner, Hasina Tandoori and of course Mr Shah's mini-mart

Nothing beats a stroll under the Eldred Avenue trees first thing in the morning. Or the sight of Withdean Stadium by dusk. Or Patcham Windmill on a fine summers evening overlooking the Downs. The paved streets upon which the feet of high fliers and ambitious youths tread in unison. The pride and joy that is the primary school in which I was educated. The wide, blossoming fields where sport is played and talent nurtured.

Ladies and gentleman, I give you WESTDENE

True. True. Westdene/Withdean nurtured me from day zero. Close enough to the City Centre, but far enough away to escape the hustle and bustle with the Downs a mere stones throw away. A shame the people around there are rather decrepit though. Not much youthful exuberance to be found oop there.
