Bookies got it all wrong? (Promotion)

As the Ferret mentioned on his betting tips column on Friday, odds of 16/1 was extremely generous (for us to get promoted) and likely to go down if we could sneak a win against Donny, which we did.
However some bookies (such as betdirect) now have us down at 25/1 (yes 25) to get promoted. Call me stupid but these odds are just ridiculous considering where we are in the table. This same site has Swindon at 20/1......:thud:

A few quid might be in order me thinks!

Edit: This is the link I got these odds from, and they are updated as you can still add Brighton at 25/1 to the betting slip

Doesn't work though sadly. Got as far as putting money into the account, getting the slip up and pressing confirm, but it wouldn't take it.

:( Damn, I was hoping the odds in the actual betting slip were correct. I would have tried it myself but I don't have an account with either of the bookies that were offering 25/1 :(

what you have to consider is that the odds do not necessarily reflect the bookies opinion but that of the wider betting public. they balance the odds on their book according to what is being backed. those offering 25/1 probably have taken (relativly) few bets on Brighton so are trying to attract some money there. bookies odds are not a measure of probability.

this is why England always has ridiculously short odds in world/european cup, because everyone has a punt on them so the odds are shorten just incase they do win.

The odds listed for Better are identical to those for Bet Direct and Stan James though (and those two are effectively the same company now anyway), which suggests that they get their prices from the same independent compiler and just haven't got around to updating Oddschecker. It's not like a supermarket, unfortunately - you can't demand 25-1 on something that's probably no worse than a 10-1 chance simply because Oddschecker is advertising it.
