There's a great little bar just off the Grand Place where they serve the usual Belgian strong fruit-flavoured beers etc and the waiting staff dress a bit like Flemish milkmaids, even the men. 8.1

Can't guarantee smut, but if you want beer, the Delirium café (Impasse de la Fidelité 4a) has 2008 varieties. They add one every year. Enough to keep most people out of trouble for a while. It's down a side alley half way down the touristy restaurant street, right by the Mannekin Pis's little sister (yes, there's a little pissing girl as well - not a lot of poeple know that).

For a different experience, La Cerceuil (the coffin) is down a side street off the Grand Place on the opposite side to the town hall. Drink in the pitch dark out of skull-shaped mugs, sat at coffins and serenaded by funeral music. Worth going in to see the shocked faces of tourists walking off the street at random thinking they've found a normal Belgian bar.

Don't drink on the Grand Place. The only difference you'll find with any other bar is the bill will be twice as big.

The Cirio, Au Bon Vieux Temps, Toone and Mort Subite are all worth checking out (all just east of the Grand Place).

As is the Bier Circus, but that's a bit further away (north of the Cetnral Station). My favourite bar in the city is l'Ultime Atome, but that's a fair hike out of the centre in Ixelles.

Hmm, it might be just me, but the Dutch beers you get here are, well, wee-wee.

Unless I have had a pretty comprehensive attack of amnesia, can anyone tell me a decent Dutch beer widely available here - or in Amsterdam for that matter.

got better smut tho..........:eek::bounce:

cos they are all "BREWED" by huge multinational corporations (Heineken, Grolsch, Interbrew) rather than people who understand brewing to be an art

Just stick to the weak ones like Chimay bruin which are only 7% and you`ll be fine.

Best beer in the world by a considerable distance methinks.

...once you've drunk the beer. By which time, everything seems great!

Plenty of places to eat in the Rue de Bouchers or Rue de Petit Bouchers, about three minutes walk from Grand Place.

Bit touristy though. In 20 years of eating mussels in Brussels, this is the only street I know of an occurrence of someone coming away with food poisoning...

For decent non-touristy restaurants, Place Du Sablon is the place to look ( a few minutes southeast of the Grand Place.
