Can some one please remind me why we cant be the first club in the country to try and successfully overturn the Govornments Law on all seater Stadia and give us some thing back, for the Heart ache we have suffered over the previous 10 years, by way of an atmosphere at a football ground[heaven forbid]

It would take a brave politician to overturn that law.

If anyone is killed or injured on terraces again, the buck stops at him

That is fair comment. It's very frustrating though - we only need to look at how they do it in Germany. Huge crowds, banks of (safe) terracing in state-of-the-art stadia.

I always think it's a good job there's no TV money in Germany (comparitively speaking) because the ingredients are definitely there to make the Bundesliga the best league in the world by a country mile.

It will only be seriously considered as soon as the Big Clubs start not to fill their Stadiums on a regular basis.

As soon as their revenue stream seems in terminal decline you watch all the clever intiatives, like hmmmmm, reasonable pricing, terracing.

I can see it happening sooner rather than later.

The passion has undoubtedly gone from the game.

I take my 2 children to Withdean and I try to explain the old 'edgy' exciting times during the Goldstone era that have made me a life long football fan.

I am not sure whether the passionless football that I take them to now will do the same for them.???

??? ??? ???

*every* Bundesliga game is on TV, no rule about 3pm kickoffs; and the money game is just as big there for TV - ARD payed 5M euros for the Ireland/Germany game to keep it off Premiere (Sky Sports-alike)

Theres even a channel that does "live highlights" - like watching Soccer Saturday but seeing the goals/other events the commentators are talking about.

The difference is people don't sit at home and watch games that are on TV that they would have gone to otherwise - they go to them anyway. Lower league supporters don't sit on their arse watching the big teams when they would otherwise be at their own teams games, etc.

Unusually about as many % subscribe to Premiere, as they need it for the highlights shows to watch said big teams games when they come back...

ANYWAYS... Getting back to the point - the only time I sit at football matches is FIFA internationals and games in England - I don't think theres an all-seater stadium in the eircom League and even those that are close let you stand around the advertising hoardings without steward-harassment. Find the whole idea of sitting down to watch football very, very weird and not conducive to an atmosphere. Is the UK the only country banning it at top-flight level?

Is that the reason that all leagues outside of England have 1 good division then the remaining divisions are way below our Championship etc in comparison. i.e French german, Italien Spanish 2nd divs etc.

The 2. Bundesliga is in no way "way below" the Championship. Theres teams recently promoted from the 3. Bundesliga who are in 30k stadia with respectable attendences, for instance. Wouldn't call Serie B "way below" either, for instance.

I agree that 2nd Division Bundesliga is likely to be of a similar level to our Championship.

However 3rd Leagues and below fall away very sharply in Germany compared to England.

I think its because that at these levels the vast majority of these are Amateur and real Amateurs, the money in the vast majority is negligible and certainly the fourth Division in Germany is minor league whereas here in England you have players in Conference South etc getting paid £500's and more and I guess thats 5th/6th Division !!

The impact this has on the Leagues and Football development can be an interesting discussion point.

Maybe the Amateur Leagues in Germany can play with a principled fearless technical game developing younger players better.

Whereas a Lewes Manager might have greater pressures and expectations similar to his professional counterparts. Leaving opportunities for the clubs younger talented players thwarted.

Results remain the name of the game as the clubs benefacters demand success for their significant financial support.

Hmmmmm I am rambling now :glare:

All seater stadia are the reason that more people go to football matches. They make it possible for young kids, women and OAPs go without fear of being hurt.

But how do you think they effect the atmosphere ???

When I was young I went OAP's went and not many women and it was electric, its now all a bit sanatised now.

How are people going to get hurt in seating sections of mixed stadia and not hurt in all seater stadia? Finn Park (in theory) even has entirely separate entrances for the shed seating and the town end/riverside terraces. Or is it that the rough uncouth hoolies that stand on terraces might menace them on the way out?

Nobody is calling for all-terraced stadia. Lots of people want to be able to stand safely - standing in the seats isn't safe - and without fear of ejection, and the presence of terraces isn't going to reduce the safety of those sitting down now is it?

In virtually all circumstances they won't get hurt. But the sight of the terraces and everyone jumping around will make people fear it and so they won't turn up or mums won't let little Johnny go.

If the sight of people enjoying themselves at football makes them scared, I honestly don't want them in the stadium.

I only remember terraces as a kid and to be honest they always scared the shit out of me and I couldn't see anything. Spose it would be different now.

Isn't the Bundesliga, with their mixture of seats and safe standing, the best supported league in Europe?

I am not sure that you have much personal experience of going to any stadiums as your likely to find it a bewildering place :)

I think the unspoken fear of football clubs is that while a reintroduction of terracing could make commercial sense it could also lead to the reappearance of hooliganism.

Any surge in hooliganism would shake up the cosy, sanitised world of Sky, the Premiership administrators and club chairmen. I would expect that any application to reintroduce terracing by a Prem club would NOT go down well.
