Cannabis Cafe Worthing

We had a very famous (in London) cafe called the Green Leaf, just round the corner from where I live. People used to queue outside the shop on a Saturday night.

It was been operating for a few years, but the Evening Standard and the Daily Mail ran a story on it and within weeks (possibly days) it was raided and shut down.

Inevitably the area round here became full of drug dealers for a long afterwards. Whilst pushing much harder stuff that was available at the local "supermarket", their sales line usually started with "The Green Leaf is shut now..."

I guess the police felt the need to do something after the publicity and afterwards they had a sign put up at Clapham North tube station informing passengers that the shop was out of business. :D

As stated above, it's my strong opinion that the drug dealing became much more intense afterwards.

Anyway. the shop did have to close and the rather naughty gentlemen who ran it is now doing time at the pleasure of the Queen.

When he was caught he was found to have assets worth in the region of £1.5million and 6,000 packets of rizla were found in the shop (as well as some other items)

The area has calmed down now, albeit for the odd shooting, but I never got hassled by drug dealers whilst the shop was open.

I'm sure the situation is now er.. back to normal and the police are well aware of it, but no-one would think of calling their shop "The Green Leaf" or even having a huge sign with a marijuana plant above the door :D

I am sure that it pays dividends sometimes for the police to 'close one eye' to certain cafes/pubs/clubs etc so that all the problems go to those and it makes life easier to control if its all in one place and the police know which place.

I can't pretend to know exactly how the police operate but I cannot seea reason that they would just ignore them. There has to be a reason and I would hazard a guess that it is gathering the evidence. The police don't decide who gets prosecuted, they investigate and arrest. It is up to the court to decide if the case is strong enough and I imagine the emount of time police would spend gathering intel would not want it blown by being hasty and having it chucked out of court.

It's up to the Crown Prosecution Service to decide if there is enough evidence or else it gets thrown out of court.

This is part bollocks as well. It works both ways. The grasses do not get there concrete boots cause the dealers like to know who is grassing them up so they can feed them information on their rivals.

I would say, don't get involved. It is not worth it. It is all a load of shit.

Hashish is no worse than beer, except that it is illegal. I know it can be synthesised to oil, but that is no worse than whisky.

Don't matter to me. I think beer distorts the world.

What you just said barely relates to anything I said.

There must be a certain amount of truth in this. But why in Adur are the Police cracking down (and incidentally causing friction for good or bad), is it because of the Tories on the Police Consultancy Committee? The politicians can target anybody they don't like for whatever reason (=The Snide). They do not even have to smoke dope, the Tories just don't like them and will blackhawk them.

I don't like the idea of cannabis cafes. While I don't like pot myself I believe that people should have the choice to smoke it if they wish as it does no real harm to others. However, I am glad that these cafes are not legal here. I used to smoke pot and visited Amsterdam several times in my twenties and I had a good time but even then I was glad that culture didn't exist in England because while it was nice to get away and be free to smoke, it was all a bit seedy and not very nice. It is was nice to have it as a treat on holiday but I would not want that appearing in our towns.

If you want to smoke you can do so discreetly in the UK. You can always get hold of it if you want to, it is not really frowned upon and is it really a massive hardship to do it in your own home. I think most smokers would rather sit on a couch, smoking and doing sod all anyway?

Er...because perhaps there's a little more activity focused on the place in question than a few sad old men lighting up the occasional spliff?

I say this not because I know anything about the Lancing job, but purely from experience, people who deal drugs don't tend to have innocent, unblemished backgrounds: they often have other little sidelines going on too. They might be dealing gear or crack somewhere up the chain. They could be laundering money through it, or stashing stolen goods. They could have access to firearms or other weapons. One type of crime has a habit of attracting another, therefore I'd be surprised if the raid in question was purely about weed.

Undoubtably you are right. If the Police had to go through the wall with a JCB it was already a prison. I would not recommend that company. :whisky:
