Do you have to support England when your club team is so poor they cant hold your interest?

Come on Israel :)

I'm not a huge fan either, but with no Hargreaves, Beckham, or Fat Frank (plus Gerrard's injury of course), he's probably our best fit midfielder.

Don't know about best but you forgot Ledley King, who would probably have been in the frame for the holding role if fit.

The main BONUS to come out of all of this is the fact that Gerrard will almost certainly be completely LIBERATED by the absence of Lampard, which will hopefully give him licence to perform like he does for Liverpool.

To be honest, I did forget about King, but I did say best FIT midfielder. You're right, King would be very decent in the holding role alongside Gerrard, but obviously that's no good on Saturday. As things stand, I would say it will HAVE to be Carrick, by a process of elimination.

Who would you say is any better? Jenas? Phil Neville? Barry?

What will be seriously bad is if Gerrard isn't fit, and we play Carrick AND one of those three:nono:

Carrick it has to be - I quite like him actually. He's struggled a bit this year because of Hargreaves' arrival at United. He's certainly better than Jenas and Phil Neville

Gerrard HAS to play on Saturday - if not we are DOOMED. I would LOVE to see Gareth Barry on the left and Joe Cole on the right.

When to do you go back to UNI? You are far too mellow in the holidays!

Losing Hargreaves is the biggest blow this week because without Lampard Gerrard would have had the chance to show how good the midfield can be without the selfish fat lad with Gerrard bombing on like he does week in week out for Liverpool. Now without Hargreaves the midfield will be weaker whoever takes his role

I don't mind Carrick, but I'm not overwhelmed. He'll do alright I suppose as long as Gerrard is with him. Gareth Barry is class but he's so slow. If that bloke could shift himself a bit quicker he would have spent his career at a top 4 club I am sure.

I go back on Sunday, but it doesn't actually start for another three weeks or so. Barely any of my friends live in Brighton any more, and I think the three summer months of total boredom has numbed my brain! It says something about the excitement in my life right now when I'm honestly looking forward to leaving Brighton for Portsmouth!!

The mellowness must be because I have taken to the ridiculous and extreme actions of supporting the team again! In all honesty, I'm just giving them a chance this season, and I'm not too disappointed with what I've seen. The last two seasons have been shocking, and they're the only seasons during which I have posted on here - I haven't ALWAYS been an abusive, insulting moaner! So, as nothing has gone wrong yet, I'm not only mellow but mildly pleased too. I even applauded the team onto the pitch at the Southend game for the first time in about two years!! I can only presume that this change MUST be my first step towards SUPERFAN status?!

Marvellous!

You will need to let Yorkie know your head measurements for the bobblehat and I can recommend a splendid anorak salesman.

As Israel have already stated they have come for a Nil-Nil and as they didn't have a single shot against us when they were at home, why do we still need a back 4? A back 1 is probably enough for this match! It will be just like the away game, the ruddy faced twat will leave it til about 10 minutes from time before he realises Isreal are palying without any forwards, then it will be too late to do anything about it!

I would be inclined to play three accross the back...but i am sure he will play 1 up front and pack the midfield.

surely this has to open the door for Barry to start. Carrick was a bit crap in the last game while Barry had decent performance. plus he gives far better balance to the side.
