I've got a 70s 'Brighton and Hove Albion - The Dolphins' scarf tucked away in my folks loft somewhere. If memory serves the badge is not dissimilar to our old round one except with dolphin (NFL Miami-style without the helmet) in centre rather than seagull.

Wasn't "The Dolphins" a result of some cack-handed Argus poll,in which names like Shrimps,Seasiders,Beaches,Rock-ets,99's,the Volks, and so on and so forth were listed.

I have sort of memories--probably it's the medication again-- of fellow fans saying "Nah!It's the Albion" and thinking what a stinker Dolphins was.But the 75th Anniversary prog shown above had the Rising Sun in blue with the thing that looks more like a haddock than a dolphin on it,and lorks, out came the scarves and badges etc.,and because I'm an anorak I still have some of them.

But it is still the Albion first and foremost!

Keep it on the island...........see you all at Falmer (and before, obviously.)

Bugger. Reading that piece Hiney posted I realise my username is misspelt! Any friendly mod around to change it to 'ion' at the end instead of 'ian'?

We were originally called The Shrimps, when we won the first ever Charity Shield in 1921, I think it was, beating Aston Villa 1 - 0 when we were a Southern League team. The Seagulls name came about from some chaps in The Bosun who when watching some Seagulls outside of the pub started on about Seagulls would eat Eagles and from that came the new nickname.

Actually it was 1910, but everything else is spot on
