Can anyone remember why BHA went from being the 'dolphins' to the 'seagulls'?

Some fans responded to Palace fans chanting "eagles" the club director then decided to change the name

Not according to Tim Carder. We were indeed the Shrimps before becoming the Dolphins.
We were originally called The Shrimps, when we won the first ever Charity Shield in 1921, I think it was, beating Aston Villa 1 - 0 when we were a Southern League team. The Seagulls name came about from some chaps in The Bosun who when watching some Seagulls outside of the pub started on about Seagulls would eat Eagles and from that came the new nickname.
