I think you'll find that that's exactly the team I suggested in the original post of this thread if I'm not mistaken?-

................Kuipers................
Whing-Elphick-Lynch-Rents
Revell-Hammond-O'Callaghan-Robinson
.........SuperBaz-Forster.....

Subs: Butters, Cox, Martot, El-Abd, Sullivan

I would agree with you sir but as an extra I believe a No1 goalkeeper will be brought in after next Sunday.

I thought that both full backs yesterdy were poor until Rents came on.

I fully expected El Abd to be gtaken off for Rents awith Elphick moved to right back as I thought El Abd was generally poor and anybody suggests that Lynch plays well at left back must be watching a different player to me. He was awful until moved to central defence and we then had a natural full back in place.

I would start with the 11 that finished except Whing for El Abd
I thought lynch did alright at leftback, what did he do wrong? Obviously he doesn't provide the support going forward that Rents does but made a couple of good runs yesterday.

I'd start with the 9 of the 11 that finished, with Whing in for El-Abd, and Martot for Revell who I don't think is a wide player at all.

.

Apart from the fact that he was not winning many tackles and was even beaten in the air on a number of occassions but this all changed when he was put in the centre.

So drop two of our best players from yesterday and start two of the worst then ?

For me, Hammond had an APPALLING game yesterday - the worst in the team by a country mile - and he had a pretty anonymous game against Northampton. I'm aware of the irony of the fact he has scored in both home games, and I'm delighted of course he scored the winning goal, but other than that, his performance was (and this is an over-used phrase I know) non-existant. One of the reasons Southend carved through our midfield was because Hammond didn't offer anything. O'Callaghan so often had to clear up his mess.

He dithered on the ball, he gave it away, he didn't win tackles. Harsh? Possibly, some might say that, but I couldn't justify his inclusion in the side at present if I were the manager.

As for Butters, I have no problem with the starting line-up of yesterday's back four. I just feel Lynch is wasted at left-back.

Did i mention either of them ? Was talking about Bas and Jakey, and including Cox on his last two home performances is baffling, he needs to play on the right, or not at all..... everytime he gets down the left he cuts back to play the ball predictable and unsuccessful

Fair enough. I presumed you were talking about dropping two from yesterday's starting line-up.

Yeah, I agree about Cox - needs his ideas bucking up.

The point I'd make about Bas and Jakey is that it's evident they have been a success when coming on as subs. Yesterday, both created mayhem mainly because the Southend defence had been used to 70 minutes of a below-par Cox and Martot, and didn't know how to handle these two livewires. If Bas and Jakey were to start the game, I'm not convinced they can do the job we know they can do for 20 minutes over a 90-minute period. Jakey, as we know, can be exceptionally frustrating.

I'm not against them starting, but... ooh, I don't know. It's a toughie.

Yeah agree that they might have most success as 'impact' players, however if have to reward players when they perform like they did yesterday. I also strongly believe Forster needs someone like Bas to play off if we are going to continue to be direct.

I also believe Forster needs a kick up the arse.

I know he's put there to bang in the goals, and that's what he did yesterday - but that's ALL he did. I would like to see a forward - especially an experienced journeyman forward - not get caught offside when looking across the line, or trying to win the second ball from a Revell nod-on, or not get muscled off the ball so easily, or stay on his feet, especially when that is the best way to score goals. And preferably for 90 minutes.

The other point is Bas is at his most damaging on the wing. He must be England's tallest winger. Would you have him as centre-forward?

Did he not play up front when he came on yesterday...he seemed to as Revell played much wider when he came on and also BAs popped up on the left as well

It's hard to work out where he was playing. He was mainly picking balls while counter-attacking, and mainly down the left. I'm not sure if Robinson was supposed to be on the left or upfront either. Revell was pushed out wide on the right (he didn't look happy about it either).

Point is, if Bas is put there to do what Revell was doing (win the balls in the air), I would say three things. One, Revell is doing a decent job of that already, two, Bas is not that good in the air, and three, it wouldn't necessarily improve Forster's game. Bas is best drawing-out and skinning defenders out wide. That side of his game ain't broke, so it shouldn't be worth fixing it.

If he scores an average of 2 goals every 4 games i.e 1 every other game with 23 goals how much would he be worth and how long would we be able to keep him even at his age.
