I'm pretty sure we confirmed European football later than they did. We qualified for EL on the last game of the season. They had at least 2 weeks after that. We followed the rules, they got cocky.
We confirmed European football on second-last weekend of the season in 2023 with 2 fixtures to play. It was a near certainty that we’d get Europa at this point as we were 3 clear of Villa with +16 GD, but it was mathematically confirmed with the midweek draw v City.

Of course we all know nothing will come of this, but it's so much fun watching them lose their minds over nothing. Someone now seems to be theorising that Chelsea may have fixed the results on the final day of the French League to ensure that they and not Strasbourg qualified for the Europa league (which they're not in. They're in the ECL).

Whilst this theory is obviously completely sane and utterly reasonable, it does overlook that, even Chelsea aren't incompetent enough not to have realised the potential risk and taken action. They had actually been talking to Uefa since January about a blind trust model for Strasbourg that was sufficient to the requirements should it be needed. :ROFLMAO:

Read that earlier- it's hilarious some of them are taking it seriously. They think that Strasbourg threw their last game of the season to ensure that in the event of any dispute Chelsea would still qualify for the Europa League! Absolute nut jobs.

Not only is it nuts, it also kinda makes the point why their multi-club ownership is potentially problematic. How do we know Palace didn't throw some games at the end of the season as a favor to Lyon?

Exactly why multi-club ownership should be done away with. Then there wouldn't be any of this conspiracy theory stuff.

Except between Spurs and Southampton that is.....

Just cos you’re paranoid, doesn’t mean no one’s out to get you.

It’s also worth remembering that the rules were slightly different back then. Because of teams dropping into the lower tournaments at the end of the group stage, Multi-Club ownership rules prevented two clubs with the same ownership from taking part no matter what competition they’d qualified for.

So had USG qualified for the Champions League and us for the Europa Tony Bloom would have still had to comply. The March 1st deadline also didn’t exist back then but TB was still proactive and made sure everything was in place, and continues to do so hence his Hearts investment being under the 30% threshold.

No it won't, because I'm not going to waste any sleep over it. It would be nice if somebody could just be arsed to explain, instead of snide "I'm ITK and you're not" sort of replies.
Someone did.
They're not ;)

Take a look at Triggaaar's post on page 78. He used them as an example, hilarity ensued.

Probably a shame someone started the whole bullshit in the first place. Hey-ho, another close season bore-fest. Anyway, I wonder what will happen to Crystal Palace's European dream.
Just to be clear, you are throwing a strop because you couldn't be bothered to read a thread? And instead just pollute the same thread with complaints about people having a bit of a giggle? They are not being all mysterious and ITK, they are simply not lazy tossers.

If Palace are kicked out, West Brom fans may not get their wish to play in Europe after all. Some folks believe that Norwich are the highest placed team in the league.

I find it hard to believe that for somewhere in Norfolk. It's flat.
