Another one here asking why it is Chelsea and City have qualified, other than possibly being the two most egregious examples of dirty money in English football.

What are the qualifying criteria? Was talking about it in the pub last night and we couldn't work out why City and Chelsea have "qualified"?

Winners of the Champions League in the last 4 years. After that I think the European teams were selected on coefficient.
Think it’s similar for other continents (their version of a he Champions League winners over the past 4 years) depending on how many spaces they have. Plus a few rouge qualification methods like Inter Miami qualifying as the League Leaders before the playoffs in the MLS last season

Talk Sport, who have the radio rights, are trying to make this sound great.
I've mentioned elsewhere there are a few games I'm up for that include the Brazilian teams against the big European hitters.
But some unknown Aussie team against some unknown Arab team at 1 am, nah.
The problem with this is that the Brazilian teams take it much more seriously and are mid season as opposed to being knackered after a full season like the European teams.
I'll be anyone but Palmeiras after comments I get here about how they couldn't support a small club like Brighton, from people in central Brazil that have never set foot in Sao Paulo, and how superior they are.

Hopefully the English teams will fall early. The less money they receive the better for the other PL teams
I dunno, knackered and grumbly “we never got a break” squads at City and Chelsea could be beneficial to us and the rest of the PL come August.

You only need to take a look at the qualifying criteria for clubs to take part in it to realise what a joke of a tournament it is. I dont even think Man City or Chelsea fans are interested in it let alone any self respecting proper football fans. Its FIFA sanctioned money making and sportswashing event.
Exactly. Pure money making and I will not be watching at all. Elite sports people need to have a break to be at their best, and surely this only risks injuries.

Inter Miami qualified by the "we have Messi" route.

According to the Athletic (via the BBC, because I don't have a sub), students at Miami Dade College were offered a deal, buy one ticket for $20, get FOUR free. So tickets are now going for $4 a pop.
