My mini Pool Valley sees the Southdown Leyland from Worthing arrive today. All the way from 1966. Backing into Bay 8.

I've always loved buses and trains and turned collecting into a hobby. Although I don't think I could get a whole one in here.

NSCers, show off your hobby collections here (especially if you have train sets)

Coaches don’t leave from pool valley anymore.

The area is now the preserve of rough sleepers, pissed up arrogant alterna-youth twats from chalk, and scaffolding.

Is this the sort of post you were looking for?

Happy to help .

Maybe I should try and put some cardboard cut outs on the floor.

Yes! 🤣

I have a couple of modest collections.

I collect hand-crank music boxes of movie theme tunes.

And I collect Indiana Jones books / comic books.

I also can’t stop buying acrylic paint. I dabble in painting but get more enjoyment out of buying kit than I do actually committing anything to canvas.

I’m at work now so can’t send snaps but yeah, those are my little distractions from life’s inexorable drudgery.

I sort of collect headphones, iems and daps.

I say sort of, because I only have several of each, but really only one of each would be perfectly fine.

I suppose the hobby then is portable hifi.

My latest foray into the world of collecting has taken me into chess sets and boards.

Two sets have arrived so far: an C18 English really finely carved bone set (pic below) and a 1870 Jaques Staunton weighted set. Two more en route: a Jaques In Statu Quo travelling set and an C19 German barleycorn set.

On boards: 4 so far, the best being a late C17/early C18 English board (again, see pic below).

Most impressive.

The yellow one is an outlier and breaks the 'Only Brighton & Hove buses' rule. Back in 1974, when I was in hospital, my parents knew what to get me. I didn't have the original, but wanted to get one if it still existed. I found it online a few weeks back.

I've got an EFE Bristol VR on the way which I snapped up for £17. That's a good price for those. I'd like one of the current Northcord Enviros, but they are very expensive. The golden goose would be the original 70s Leyland double deckers. But I can't find any online.

I collect old and foreign coins and notes.

On my trips to the USA I've been gradually acquiring the state, territory, landmark, and female icon Quarter designs.

The oldest coin in my collection is from 1850.
Old & Foreign together, or old (UK included) as well as foreign.

We've just sold off the father-in-law's collection of mainly UK coin issues and so on - went to auction but didn't raise a lot, except for a gold half-eagle which went for about £400 (about enough for a few days of his care home fees). Anyway, at the back of a drawer, we've just found four roman coins - but I don't know much about them. That would take your oldest back a bit!

Didn't make clear - old and/or foreign. UK definitely included.

The 1850 one I have is a Queen Victoria 3d.

Nice. I carry a Georgian half-penny in my jeans watch-pocket - as I find a coin really useful for tightening up the camera plate for the tripod, and often haven't got keys or anything else useful with me! It's really shiny now!

50ps.

Well, I did until it became so popular that the Royal Mint in their wisdom started bringing out designs of new coins that were never released in circulation.

You could only buy them from the Royal Mint,or other sources, usually for about a fiver a time.
I bought the first few out, but decided that it was just a money making exercise for the Mint.( no puns intended) There is now over 100 different 50ps.

I have 2 full sets of Olympic 50p, every design up until about 2023.
I also have about 30 different £2 coin designs.

And yes, I have 2 original Kew Gardens 50ps.
