No not full on Corbyn, but the labour party has lost its values since Starmer has done so many things to effect working class, he seems to have gone all Tory.
As you class yourself middle class would you be happy to pay more tax to help out the working class?
I think Starmer has played a very short game to be honest, and that is the reason why he is so unpopular as PM if most that voted for him thought he was so going to be so underhanded he would have never got in. Can you trust anyone in life that makes out they are one thing but they are clearly the opposite?

Mmmm i genuinely didn’t know this but the Government are Diverting £2.2bn of UK overseas aid to cover asylum Hotel accommodation, which they are allowed to do, interesting BBC article below..

Government struggles to cut foreign aid spent on asylum hotels https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cgmjd8evd0go
No reason why the extra money that France wants can't come from savings made from cuts in overseas aid spending also

Possibly but having now discovered that the millions we spend on housing unauthorised arrivals in hotels and similar is being taken from the overseas aid budget sits well with me

Totally agree as at least the money is then going back into the economy and helping the beleaguered hotel trade rather than disappearing into who knows where

Disagree, whatever pot the money comes from its tax payers money. Given the Government are borrowing billions each month to cover spending it’s then it’s just another liability imposed on tax payers.

There is little doubt we are in a cost of living crisis, by all accounts we have a black hole in the budget, WFA needed to be cut to prevent a run on the pound, and yet the Government are willing to lavish money on an asylum system whereby private hotels are used to house tens of thousands of individuals that undoubtedly have little right to be here.

I suspect this aspect of the asylum system did not arrive by accident, like climate change and DEI the immigration gig has developed its own eco system with quangos, charities and private enterprise all orbiting round and sucking on the teat.

As always the distribution of money is unequal. A hotel near me was converted to house asylum seekers and this lead to the existing staff being made redundant as they were replaced by government contractors. I call the first witness for the prosecution……

This Government like the Tories won’t do a thing about immigration legal or otherwise because too many people are doing well out of it thank you very much. The taxpayer as always is at the bottom of that pile. We will see if like the Tories it leads to political evisceration.

I watched a video yesterday of Sussex Police attending the Copthorne Hotel where they were shown clear video evidence of one of the many foreign SIA security guards damaging an Auditors equipment and getting hands on, the guard had to be restrained by his colleagues as they knew he was out of order, Sussex Police whilst acknowledging an assault took place refused to arrest the security guard if the boot had been on the other foot the Auditor would have been taken straight to Crawley Police Station in cuffs !!

Nightmare for Keir Starmer as minister leaves government after just 2 weeks in post

Baroness Margaret Curran has quit Sir Keir Starmer's Government after just over two weeks as Energy Minister. The Labour peer said it was an "honour" to serve in the role but that she was stepping down due to "unexpected news" regarding her health.

I thought I'd quote this to save one of the regulars on this thread doing what they normally do. Reading the headline, losing interest before actually reading the article and then posting it on here anyway

Reading this thread there’s seems to be collective amnesia of just how awful the Tories were.
They left behind a total skipfire, sorting the mess out is going to take time, we’re not even a 5th of the way through the term. Expectations are unrealistic is at this stage in the game

Back in the real world, this was done a long time ago. It was also done when considerably higher numbers were in hotels because the calamity of the previous government(s) engaged in gimmicks to please all those that post on this particular thread, rather than processing the claims of this asylum seekers. This huge backlog is now slowly but surely being dealt with and the cost of hotels is coming down.

It won't end overnight, but it's coming down. It's almost as if politics is about policies and processes that are effective, if unspectacular. We might just need to look at the kind of effective yet radical policies that will address the multiple problems encompassing this sorry electorate. There are two parties to avoid if anyone is remotely interested in achieving this.

Shocking, isn’t it? The same mindset is prevalent everywhere - I see it constantly in my job, people who think shiny ideas are the answer, when 99/100 what’s needed is some attention to detail and methodical work.

My wife and son don’t like Starmer because he’s dull. Personally, I think that’s what a Prime Minister should be.

I would rather have a bolder and more radical vision but, compared to what came before, this is a competent administration dealing with a dire set of circumstances, and a delusional electorate (many of whom are on this thread).
