Absolutely! When the traffickers are packing people on to inflatable boats, they should of course go through rigorous health and safety checks before launching them on their voyage.
Just need the French to organise it. Shouldn't be a problem.

Having witnessed for myself three of my favourite hotels being taken over by the government, I'll explain what 1000 imigrants will cost in simple terms.
Travelodge Brighton Seafront, Queens Hotel, Old Ship Hotel and The Grand would be needed to house them, presuming two to a room.
These hotels have all their staff sacked, on the spot. No staff needed.
Next security is needed so a few security staff employed.
Hotel would be paid a very good rate.
When the contract ends the hotel is left 'as new' (I witnessed this), fully decorated top to bottom, complete new furniture and bedding.
All this just for the arrivals in one day.

You've got yourself in a proper mess over this which apparently has lead to people with actual working brains advocating for wave machines to kill people in dinghies.

I ask this in entirely good faith: what has the current government done to open safe asylum application routes that don't rely on taking huge risks in small boats?

Because, surely that should be a big part of solving the problem.
