England should book in for bed and breakfast on this pitch, its only going to improve this afternoon. 😍
Always a good batting pitch but also having a village green boundary helps

Don't fear Notts are here, Duckett cashing in.
I think Bert from Bogthorpe seconds would be cashing in here. They could have selected any Tom, Dick and Harry for the batting line up, although more likely Tom where Sussex and Somerset are concerned.

For any test batsmen aspiring to get the full set of centuries against every other test-playing nation, these opportunities are like gold dust. Indeed, some of the batsmen may only get one innings in a test against this lot.

I was surprised to read Root is still missing all of South Africa, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Zimbabwe.

Great knock by Duckett, while a lot has been talked about Zak Crawley and his place in the team Duckett has proven himself to be a high quality, consistent performer for England in recent years

Nice to see an ex Bexhill CC player as captain in a Test Match in England in the 150th anniversary year of the club.

Was just coming on to say something similar. My boys are well chuffed they play for a club that can now boast a test captain as a former player.

This is already the largest batting partnership in tests between these 2 countries beating the previous best 149 (achieved twice). Other records that could go are:

1. England's highest ever score in a test vs Zimbabwe is 472. They are on pace to beat that today.
2. England's highest individual score is 137 (Mark Butcher)
3. The highest ever between the 2 countries is Murray Goodwin (148no)
4. Most 6s in an innings - 2 (Alec Stewart)
5. Most runs by 4s and 6s - 90 (Mark Butcher)

My main memory was the 1996 series where Heath Streak was bowling near wides to stop us scoring and Bumble lost his marbles over it.

So records for highest partnership, highest individual score, highest score in 4s /6s all beaten and we've only had 42 overs, 48 still remain today.

What is the point of this? It's bonkers to call this a 'test' match.
Nobody wants to see one sided games in test cricket. But Zimbabwe wouldn't have fallen away as badly if they had regular games against top teams scheduled.

There really aren't that many countries who play test cricket, so the ones there are need to be supported

A quick reminder England played two extremely one-sided test matches against Bangladesh in 2005 shortly before the greatest series in recent times against Australia that summer

Let's see if test cricket is still "dying" next February once the dust has settled on the next two series, shall we?
