That was a dreadful day for Sussex.
But it turns out it wasn’t the worst sport thing to happen today.

I can't see Clark keeping his place, that was a truly dreadful shot

There’s a mental issue with Clark. Something happens, his brain gets frazzled and then he’s a sitting duck. Both his dismissals today followed the same pattern. It also happened a lot last season.
There is a strong case to swap him like for like for Carter.
Another option is to move Clark to seven to take the pressure off, and use him more as a change bowler.
Maybe give Coles a rest.
I don’t like any of them at 3 tbh.

I'd like to see Carter back and maybe Ibrahim - who scored a ton for the Seconds this week. Lamb will probably get his place back too.

Alsop and Coles are both on thin ice too. Farby should be having a word with them tonight. Our middle order has it too easy, they're batting knowing that it doesn't matter whether make a low score, they're still in for the next game. Haines, Simpson and Carson apart, the batting has been shocking this season.

I'd like to see Carter back and maybe Ibrahim - who scored a ton for the Seconds this week. Lamb will probably get his place back too.

Agree with all of that.
Farbrace has always had a generous outlook of Coles, Alsop and in particular Clark.
But he never seems convinced by Carter.
But even if he deserves a recall, Carter is no world beater.
We are now feeling the effects of, for whatever reason, no recruitment in the summer, stagnation of Rogers, Ibrahim and a few others, and a tail off in the form of last season’s stalwarts.
Worrying patterns are also emerging, including it taking a bad batting performance to get going. Coles and Alsop have both scored well at times, but not when it really matters. In first innings after first innings we get a dipsy version of Coles. That is not good enough for Div One.

Ibrahim looked a real prospect a couple of years ago. Let's hope he comes good.

Being new to Div 1, I find the quality and depth of the Somerset squad almost as strong as Surrey. Seriously good.

Disagree re Clark. He has a superb cover drive and a decent range of shots. As we saw against Warwicks. I think his biggest weakness is a mental thing. I thought he’d overcome it, but clearly not. He should be developed as a batting allrounder.
I like Carter. Not sure he’s up to being a Div One number 3 though. None of them are.
The batting development is generally disappointing considering we have Grant Flower on the case.
What‘s happened to Rogers for example? The batch of youngsters have gone right off the boil in the last year or so.

I was surprised at the follow on being enforced. Not so much now.

Disagree re Clark. He has a superb cover drive and a decent range of shots. As we saw against Warwicks. I think his biggest weakness is a mental thing. I thought he’d overcome it, but clearly not. He should be developed as a batting allrounder.

Maybe Clark’s emergence as a bowler is affecting his focus and concentration as a batter. He’s played a number of poor shots this season.

I missed this morning's play but how could someone be run out, while trying to dig in.

I reckon Carter is certain to be in next match, the question is, who will he replace?

I’d drop Alsop because Coles and Clark bowl a bit and could be used in a different way.
Clark might benefit from being taken out of the number three firing line.
It‘s just moving the deckchairs around though. Bar the odd contribution none of the younger players are demanding first team places. That’s a problem in itself.
Crocombe and Lamb need to show something in the seconds before displacing Karvelas. Crocombe is cannon fodder if he’s not firing and Lamb easily falls into being an all rounder who doesn’t take wickets and doesn’t get runs.

That dropped catch by Craig diving at slip has me worried. Yes the pitch gets flat but there is a reason we have 7 batting points this season (and five of them in one game).
