It’s hard to believe this is the same man who bounded in at Lords to win us the 1986 Nat West Final, and always had a smile on his face around the county ground.

Him and Asif Din destroyed Sussex after tea in the 1993 final. I remember passing the ground bookies with Warwicks at 7/1 during the break. Interestingly, both matches involved teams making record breaking totals.

I see Hayes bowled 6 overs, going at above a run a ball. Very odd selection, if we weren't going to play Karvelas we may as well have played Carter.
Guessing Hayes playing was a condition of him singing.
Bit of a disaster as the skipper clearly doesn’t rate him.
And we miss out on Karvelas, who is solid and would have done a decent job.

But that makes it even weirder that we chose to field first
In the last couple of Taunton games I think I’m right in saying the pitch has got easier to bat on Later on. Maybe that was the logic?

It has for ages. It is not always easy to score runs late in the game but it is very hard to get people out. The pitch dies. The Ecb didn’t like crying about turning pitches and punished us. Green seamers are fine where 75 mph bowlers are unplayable but not spinners. Perfect test prep.

It feels like we might benefit from being skittled as pitch doing plenty this morning. Might be a good time to bowl!

Pretorious will not bat for long but might score some runs.

This match has been a brilliant advert for DRS. Two absolute clangers in the Somerset innings and that lbw decision on Clark from Henry was staggering. It was hitting middle wasn’t it? Maybe middle and leg. No idea how that was not out. Strange.

And the one two balls later looked high but maybe umpires call. I suspect that was an umpire realising he had screwed one up!
