I think that is just manufactured virtue signalling from Trump to impress/influence his MAGA base.

Making immigrant ‘criminals’ synonymous with the most dangerous criminals in history and the most notorious prison where they were incarcerated.

Making Alcatraz up to code and subsequent running overheads of the island facility will cost an extortionate amount of money (more than building several new prisons on the mainland). It is an international tourist centre and rakes in millions of dollars as a museum.

This was all about Trump’s petulant reaction to lawmakers who are pushing back on his unlawful deportation orders of undocumented migrants to prisons in Central America.

The idea of reopening Alcatraz is absurd.

Apparently, according to some American posts I've read (so take it with a pinch of salt) he came out with that, because Escape from Alcatraz had been shown on tv that day.
Seeing as he often says the first thing that comes into his mind, I can believe it!

Oh, I do find it funny looking at responses to comments I make on US media FB pages etc. Jokingly commented earlier that Trumps "closer economic ties" with the Middle East could easily read as "building new Trump golf courses". Immediately get responded to with things like "you are so dumb, you Biden libtard", "your TDS is showing, you dumb-ass", "This is worth trillions to the US, you're so dumb and must hate this country" etc etc. Only for them to delete their comments when I applaud their eloquence, tell them Im not even from the US - and that beyond their secular little world, the vast majority of the planet hates him too. They get so wound up by sarcastic humour.

The irony of calling anyone who isnt a Trump loyalist a "screaming lunatic", is completely lost on them.

Therefore, I am pleased to announce that Tomorrow morning, in the White House, at 9:00 A.M., I will be signing one of the most consequential Executive Orders in our Country’s history. Prescription Drug and Pharmaceutical prices will be REDUCED, almost immediately, by 30% to 80%. They will rise throughout the World in order to equalize and, for the first time in many years, bring FAIRNESS TO AMERICA! I will be instituting a MOST FAVORED NATION’S POLICY whereby the United States will pay the same price as the Nation that pays the lowest price anywhere in the World. For 3 years I've been on a drug with a list price in the US which is much higher than that paid by the NHS. This was simply because the NHS was able to negotiate on the basis of scale. The discount was a commercial decision by the pharma company. In contrast the US system has everyone exploiting everyone else. Last year the drug's patent expired so the NHS now has deals for the generic version which has knocked 60-70% of the price.

It is unbelievable that the President is even allowed to accept the gift of a $400 million jet from a foreign country.

He genuinely doesn't seem to understand the importance of not being in thrall to other nations, of being seen to be whiter than white and incorruptible. Whatever vestiges of occupying the moral high ground he possessed have surely gone. He is a grifter down to his core.

It is yet another sign that America's role as leader of the free world is disappearing before our eyes.

I think the "being seen as whiter than white and incorruptible" boat sailed about 10 minutes after noon on 20th Jan.
