Bizarre but I will bite. Where does gov expenditure on the nhs, defence, roads, benefits etc come from if not tax?
As I’ve explained already, newly created money. No need to tax or issue bonds They both perform other functions but funding expenditure isn’t one of the.

What they could do with shortage of carers is similar to what cruise ships do with their staff - allow the carers to come in, but not to bring their family and not to obtain rights to stay via marriage. They would be on minimum wage, I dare say, in this country which would be the equivalent of a big wage back home; and they would have (presumably) few living expenses and would work long hours while setting themselves up for a comfortable life back home.

Whether it would be morally right or politically doable, I wouldn't like to say - but it would be practical.
I bet mums (they are usually women) would love to leave their family behind and come to Britain where they feel like they are being used. . Yep. Deffo.

I thankfully have not lived in a care home but my spell in hospital showed me that , from a patient’s view, the HCAs. (nursing assistants who do most of the hard work) from the Philippines and India were by far the best .
These women had a way about them that made you feel important, they showed empathy and always smiled. Far from being “ trafficked “ they wanted to be here .

The care system and NHS would be the poorer without them.
no one is disputing that

That's what I thought. We'd like you to come here and look after our elderly, but we'd also like you to do it in the most hostile and least welcoming way possible"

Well, some are...
no one in the NHS nor anyone who has been in hospital for any length of time would dispute that .......massive difference between those qualified professionals who have entered through the correct procedure and the non specific , unknown , sketchy at best, boat arrivals.

I believe that was his pledge from when he was running to be leader of the opposition (I could be wrong)

As I said before, Labour are running scared of Reform - he must be the most right wing Labour PM in history (and after Blair, that 's some doing)

It is. He completely misrepresented himself and his politics to gain leadership of the party and now uses language that would have Enoch Powell in delight. I don't really know how Labour party MPs/members can accept this lurch to the hard right.

I’m really starting to become extremely impressed with the Labour Government, and after perhaps a shaky start look to be getting a real handle on the things that are important to the electorate, the Conservative’s will disappear for at least 15 years at this rate.

I believe there are women in some parts of the world who aren't mothers.

Be that as it may, clapham-gull has already mentioned that incoming cares haven't been allowed to bring their families for a year or so, in which case (if you're implication is right) there will have been few incoming carers since then and the whole issue is moot.

SKS is now repeating concerns that many have raised by many over the past few years.

Such people were called racists and bigots.
Are the people who said this in the past now not racists/islamaphobe/etc? I'm not judging anyone, just want to know what the current "truth" is. it's starting to get a bit confusing.

They really are.

Especially given the circumstances, Starmer and his government are really doing a phenomenal job. They are doing what they can to address all the key issues that we are all concerned about. It is really refreshing, and exciting.

But what I find genuinely depressing is that the right-wing media is SO influencial, that people can't see what a phenomenal effort this is.

It wouldn't surprise me if our idiotic morons that make up our electorate f*** things up for generations by voting in Reform at the next election. I am praying that, somehow, the truth prevails and this Labour government gets a second term.

What is 'newly created money'? You dont seriously mean just printing more do you?

Time will tell whether he is a pragmatic operator or a craven idiot.
I am not quite in the 'if you are going to twat the foringer, may as well have Farage throw them in the sea' camp.
Yet.

Still.....

If the green and libs could put down the chalice, and the seaweed knitting needles for a moment....
they might become a focus for the disaffected liberal left vote.
Stranger things (etc.).
