Well the Combined Counties Southern Premier seems to be drawing to a sad and slow conclusion. League winners Jersey Bulls have a three point deduction for fielding a suspended player, they appeal and lose.
Redhill move up from second place to top of the league after an investigation it appears that they also fielded a suspended player and have a three point deduction moving Redhill from top to third, Jersey from third to second and Whyteleafe without playing a game have moved from third to second to top of the league all subject to Redhill appealing against the three point deduction.
Are we all keeping up?
Anyway Sunday I'm off to Wembley for the FA Vase Final to cheer on the Mighty Leafe. It could be a League and Vase double, or not subject to appeals, oh and results.
I feel for the volunteers who organise the leagues administration they are getting a right beating on social media.
Come On You Leafe.

Hassocks
Lovely sunny day out at Peacehaven for the Peter Bentley Cup Final between Hassocks and Crowborough who finished as the top two in the SCPL.
A strong wind made for tricky playing conditions and the bounce on the 4g pitch seemed hard to judge at times.
Crowborough took an early lead and looked sharper in the opening exchanges, but Hassocks came back and ran out as comfortable 3-1 winners.
HIghlight was another now seemingly routine long range effort from Big Al Fair (5 mins in on the highlights)
Good crowd from both sides, staff at Peacehaven all friendly and welcoming, and a really good setup they've got there.
Hassocks finish the season with league and cup wins for the 1sts, U23s and U18s. Its been a heck of a season.

Excuse me, I’m a dodderer, but didn’t Hassocks used to be the venue for a very decent pre-season 6 a side tournament? Points for goals and corners?

Yes, Hassocks 6 a side I think started in 1961. I played in it a few times in the mid to late 1960's for Hurstpierpoint, when there were teams from outside the County, including London. I never progressed very far, only once getting beyond the group stage. I have no idea if it is still continuing.

@Peacehaven Wild Kids you'll know this; what happened to the old stand where the camera is facing? I hardly recognise the ground!

Shout out to Aldershot Town, who won the FA Trophy yesterday by beating Spennymoor 3-0. Their first ever trip to Wembley.

The original club was my dad’s team as he lived in the area from about 10. I remember him talking fondly about the 1970/1 season when they had a League Cup game against United (lost 1-3 at home) and then a trip to Anfield in the FA Cup (a narrow 1-0 loss).

I’ve always kept an eye on their results. Dad passed away in 2013, but he’d have been a proud man yesterday watching that.

Yep l was there at Wemberlee, wathing first the Vase final, AFC Whyteleafe v. Whitstable Town, the latter winning a very tight contest after extra time, after Leafe had scored first. A good game of football actually.

Then the main event, the Trophy final where the Shots basically overpowered a Spennymoor side to win at a canter after a goalless first half.

My first trip to the "new" Wembley actually, and can't say l was overly impressed, big (obviously), but missed my nice comfy padded seat at the Amex, the Wembley ones are hard plastic, and numb the bum after watching two games back to back. A bit of a hike from central London by public transport too.

Can't disagree with any of that from a Crowborough point of view. Crowborough started both halves strongly and if they'd taken one of their chance at the start of the second half it may have been a different outcome. As soon as Hassocks got the second that knocked the wind out of the Crows sails and Hassocks looked comfortable. Also agree the wind was more of a hidderance than a help for the team with it behind.

One thing I will say is I don't think you are championing the third goal enough.....certainly not as much as the Hassocks twitter admin:

The audacity to even shoot from there is one thing but to execute it as perfectly as he did.......bravo sir!

For those of you who haven't seen it here it is:

Certainly one of the best goals I've seen this season across all levels of football.

Blimey. I've only watched Hassocks once this season but they were absolutely brimming with confidence and looked a really good side. I hope they survive in the level above, it's a big step up.

@Peacehaven Wild Kids you'll know this; what happened to the old stand where the camera is facing? I hardly recognise the ground!

Not sure what you mean by “old stand”
When I started going in the late 90s the only covered area was the existing club house/bar/changing rooms. That hasn’t changed much apart from a new roof and being rolled in glitter a couple of times. The camera used is positioned on the roof.
On the far (north) side there were only (IIRC) a couple of concrete block dug outs.

c2010 we opened the new 150 seat stand however due to Ryman League instructions it was extended at each end to accommodate 250 in about 2016. This pointless excercise totally cleaned us out financially however it was partially
funded by supporters getting a name on a seat for £200, my son’s one is still in existence despite some being vandalised by local layabouts a couple of years back.
That stand remains although the white pelmet with the words “Peacehaven and Telscombe FC”across it have long sine succumbed to the wind coming off The Channel. The other change is some of the vandalised seats have now been replaced by red ones from the old Wembley VIP area.

The east end (right) remains unchanged.

The west end, now has a 100 capacity standing white elephant, again following instruction from The Ryman league, this was also erected c2016.

All other improvements such as perimeter fencing, concreted walkways, tidied up grassed areas etc are all from last winters instillation of the 3G pitch.

It’s certainly a club on the up doing it’s best for the community however apart from one or two away matches a season I don’t go anymore so I’m a little bit out the loop as they say.

This makes sense as I left in 2015. Thanks for the explanation!

I remember the ground looking like this:
