The first part about lack of investment and shoddy equipment could also apply to us. Starmer may have announced a modest increase in our defence spending but is that really enough, I don't think so.
PS Why are we not actively looking to increase the number of service personnel with reservists, looking at encouraging youngsters to train. Tories got hammered for suggesting a form of national service but with the potential dangers is it time?

This is going to be an important week. Putin's options are narrowing. His wriggle room is being removed. It's a dangerous time.
'He is planning future invasions in plain sight'. Yes. That is exactly what he is doing.
I agree his wriggle room is being constrained... BUT I still don't see that Trump will agree to increase sanctions on Russia. I know the meeting with the UK EU coalition says that Trump is fully on board but I think Trump will back out - hope to be proven wrong of course.

If Trump was going to put ANY pressure on Putin he would have done it by now. All he ever does is offer inducement such as trade deals, lifting of sanctions and even madly a place in next years world cup. Putin will just continue to take the piss out of him.
Yes. In some form. Not in a mandatory conscription type, but something.
Interesting that Germany is planning something in this area: increase military salaries and add momentum to a reservist program.

I see the Daily Mirror and MSN ran the story last Tuesday of a blast in a block of flats north of Moscow where Putin is alleged to share one of the flats with his mistress and mother of their children. There are 3 dead, 13 injured including the electrician who was working on his apartment and ended up in a coma. Other media outlets picked up on the story over the weekend.
This comes after one of Putin's presidential car fleet was blown up at the end of March.

Britain's shrinking military: Is Labour's plan enough to fix it?
Troop numbers are down, morale is weak and some equipment is in a poor state - will the government's Strategic Defence Review be enough to turn that around?

The state of the British defence services make depressing reading. The worry is there doesn't seem to be much urgency to address the shortcomings with equipment never mind personnel. Over 3 years since Russian invaded and we have barely replaced the armaments we have given Ukraine never mind updating & training for drone warfare. Heads in the sand. The increase in spend is not nearly enough. We need Churchill shouting at the government to rearm NOW.

I do think that the change in Military tactics in Ukraine (drones etc) have to a certain extent put a bit of a pause on what should be procured. Ukraine handing Putin his arse on a plate has changed how future wars will be fought. Saying all that we do need to significantly increase service personal which also can’t be fixed overnight.

I'm sure they believe Putin won't go, and all these words are theatre designed to put pressure on Putin and then expose his BS.
Zelenskyy is doing what Trump asks, subtley praising Trumps lead, inviting him to Turkey which would put both Putin and Trump in awkward positions.
It will be much harder for Trump to blame Zelenskyy and not look clueless, for Putins empty seat. It will be tough for Putin to renege on the very meeting he called for thinking he was being clever in circumventing the west's cease fire demands. And if Putin goes they'll be domestic questions as to why, if things are "all going according to plan" as the brainwashed masses are told. + Reality now is Putin needs war now to survive.
