Germany's military revival. The shackles are gone and the scale of the revival may provide an element of comfort.

Poland PM Donald Tusk accuses Russia of Warsaw shopping centre fire
Donald Tusk says the massive Warsaw blaze was "for sure" ordered by the Russian special services.www.bbc.com
Big stuff in here:
- Zelenskiy says he'll meet Putin in Turkey Thursday (v unlikely Putin will show up)
- US intelligence believes Putin is getting ready to fire another oreshnik missile this week
- Putin's youth army (under 16s) numbers 1.4 million, including many stolen Ukrainian kids. He is planning future invasions in plain sight
I agree his wriggle room is being constrained... BUT I still don't see that Trump will agree to increase sanctions on Russia. I know the meeting with the UK EU coalition says that Trump is fully on board but I think Trump will back out - hope to be proven wrong of course. This is going to be an important week. Putin's options are narrowing. His wriggle room is being removed. It's a dangerous time.
'He is planning future invasions in plain sight'. Yes. That is exactly what he is doing.

If Trump was going to put ANY pressure on Putin he would have done it by now. All he ever does is offer inducement such as trade deals, lifting of sanctions and even madly a place in next years world cup. Putin will just continue to take the piss out of him.I agree his wriggle room is being constrained... BUT I still don't see that Trump will agree to increase sanctions on Russia. Yes. In some form. Not in a mandatory conscription type, but something. The first part about lack of investment and shoddy equipment could also apply to us. Starmer may have announced a modest increase in our defence spending but is that really enough, I don't think so.
PS Why are we not actively looking to increase the number of service personnel with reservists, looking at encouraging youngsters to train. Tories got hammered for suggesting a form of national service but with the potential dangers is it time?
Interesting that Germany is planning something in this area: increase military salaries and add momentum to a reservist program. The first part about lack of investment and shoddy equipment could also apply to us. Well done Germany.
You can’t fix 13 years of incompetence in a couple of years, as the procurement process with MOD isn’t quick. The austerity defence cuts hamstrung the military and was an absolute shit show.![]()
Britain's shrinking military: Is Labour's plan enough to fix it?
Troop numbers are down, morale is weak and some equipment is in a poor state - will the government's Strategic Defence Review be enough to turn that around?www.bbc.co.uk
The state of the British defence services make depressing reading. The worry is there doesn't seem to be much urgency to address the shortcomings with equipment never mind personnel. Over 3 years since Russian invaded and we have barely replaced the armaments we have given Ukraine never mind updating & training for drone warfare. Heads in the sand. The increase in spend is not nearly enough. We need Churchill shouting at the government to rearm NOW.
