Agreed. He was ultimately disrespecting the owner. That might not be a problem at most clubs but at Brighton, where the owner has invested hundreds of millions of his own cash and seen the club steadily rise up the league, that's a very high risk strategy. As you say, the money was there but why would Bloom hand it over to a guy that was making not so coded remarks against him?Clearly a bit of a marmite personality who can rub people the wrong way, and injuries or not he didn't shower himself in glory in the final months here, taking little pops at the club and refusing to acknowledge his own role in the long run of bad form. But I'll always be grateful for him taking us to Europe and the best season in our history.
The war chest was clearly available for summer 2024, but RDZ showed his attitude and Tony decided to entrust that money to someone else. I firmly believe that it was RDZ's behaviour that led to him leaving more so than the poor results. Maybe he'd have done better with this lot of players, but maybe it just wasnt worth dealing with such a difficult bloke.
You'll note I draw a distinction between disrespecting the owner and the club. In terms of the team and the supporters, he gave us sanction to dream like never before, for which I'll always be grateful.
It was a wonderful, spectacular ride, but sadly all too short.
