In relation to points for speeding, should someone who drives 1000 miles a year get the same points as someone who drives 30k a year the same offence?I'm still really curious as to how you envisage such a system to work.

Should speeding points accumulated on a motorbike count against an hgv driver when you have to take a separate driving test for them?
Spin it round. Someone who occasionally drives is caught speeding. Given they hardly ever drive what is the likelihood they’ll actually cause an accident through their speeding? Probably quite low.In relation to points for speeding, should someone who drives 1000 miles a year get the same points as someone who drives 30k a year the same offence?

This is getting complicated. Keep it simple, if you feel the need to speed, set off a bit earlier.Spin it round. Someone who occasionally drives is caught speeding. Given they hardly ever drive what is the likelihood they’ll actually cause an accident through their speeding? Probably quite low.
Someone who drives a lot is caught speeding. It’s unlikely that this is a one off, so they are probably speeding on a regular basis but know where the speed cameras are etc. Given they drive a lot and quite post speed a lot what is the likelihood they’ll cause an accident through their speeding? Probably higher than the first person.
Yes, that discussion was off on a bit of a tangent! This is getting complicated. Keep it simple, if you feel the need to speed, set off a bit earlier.
But if they hardly ever drive and yet are caught speeding doesn't this suggest they are a f***ing menace?Spin it round. Someone who occasionally drives is caught speeding. But if there’s someone going to the shops 365 days a year who gets caught shoplifting the chances are they are shoplifting a lot more often but just not getting caught. But if they hardly ever drive and yet are caught speeding doesn't this suggest they are a f***ing menace?
Its a bit like only going to the shops twice a year and yet still getting done for shoplifting.
