Is anyone else into these? I have always liked Tabasco and that square bottled Econa sauce and have been trying out alternatives recently. A friend brought me this over from the UK this weekend. I also have a number from a company called Crazy Bastard with sauces like Caroline Reaper and Blueberry, and Jalapeño and Date.

I always have 7 or 8 hot sauces on the go.. However i have little interest in the ones that seem obsessed with heat and nothing about flavour.

Brighton chilli shop do/did some excellent sauces
This is what is intriguing about these Crazy Bastard sauces. They’re hot/super hot, but also hold flavor with the added ingredient eg blueberry.

My fancy is "If my grand had balls she'd be my grandpa" sauce. It's made by a company called "Insultingly hot hot sauces."

Easy mistake to make. A few years back I made the mistake of getting a bottle of Dave's Insanity Sauce which curiously ASDA stocked at the time. Zero flavour but ridiculous heat and I reckon you could clean driveways with it.

Very much so, although Encona is my regular daily sauce, and has been for a fair few years now.

I tend to have the standard "West Indian Original", but pick up the Carolina Reaper when I see it.

In terms of flavour, try and "sauce" the La Chinata one.

It's incredible.

I still have a bottle of Chilli Pepper Pete’s Dragons Blood Batch 13 bought at the Marina from the great man himself. Must be over 15 years old now as it says best before June 2011

Whilst i have genuine respect for your culinary expertise and indeed taste for some of the finest food on God’s Earth i’ll draw the line at these style of sauces

One taste of that stuff and the toilet that i’d inevitably have to find within 2 minutes would look like a crime scene…. 😳

Yikes.

Some of the current sauces I have are without doubt hot, some are just plain tasty with really mild warmth. The jalapeno and date one especially. Maybe we can invent a new scoring system..... '5 minutes' on the Chicken Run Scale for the mild date sauce?

Thank you for the kind words although I'm not sure I have expertise, I think experience is a better term for me. I do enjoy food, reading and talking about food, seeking out places and am fortunate to have tried many good restaurants from low to high end. I think I have some way to go before I'd consider myself an expert though.

We always have a few in the cupboard. Saxon Jr likes the hotter ones, I tend to stick a bit lower on the scale.

These are two we regularly have from the Chilli Project website. They also do an excellent chipotle brown sauce.

This is available from the Chilli Shop in Leeds. The guy who runs it started the Brighton Chilli Festival. Not sure if it's linked to the shop in Brighton or not!

Edit: I understand both shops were started by the same person - Frank Jay - who moved from Brighton to Leeds in 2014.
