Why is it that whenever any player makes a plant, no matter how straightforward it is, it always get a round of applause? It's the same as the headed backpass to the goalkeeper. That always gets one as well, even though it rarely merits it.

On a similar theme, why have they not improved the method by which balls get put back in the right place after a miss. At the moment it's an old geezer looking at a small screen shouting instructions to the ref several metres away; seems very antiquated!

High time they did away with the waistcoats and bow ties too. What's all that about???

The Rocket looking in imperious form against Jai Ho, you wouldn't bet against him adding to his 7 World Titles. @Jim D got very lucky in drawing him.

The eagerly anticipated match up between the two maplewood gladiators, The Wizard of Wishaw and The Welsh Potting Machine is certainly living up to its billing, an absolute thriller with The Welsh Potting Machine a single frame in front after 17 frames.

Good quality pool cues are customarily made from straight-grained hard rock maple wood, especially the shaft. Snooker cues, by contrast, are almost always made of ash wood, although one might come across one with a maple shaft. Maple is stiffer than ash, and cheaper.

Extraordinary match between Williams and Higgins. That final frame is surely one of the best deciding frames in Crucible history in terms of quality and drama without endless safety play? Magnificent display of potting and lovely tension. Both men looked out of it and both men looked like absolute certainties at different times.

And now straight onto Brecel who has helped himself to 5 frames in a row in the match. Magnificent match in prospect here and potentially this will determine who wins the tournament.

Delighted that the sweepstake initiator is still in with a chance, what great fortune.

Good luck to all those remaining, and a pat on the back to Gurjit for such a thrilling tournament.

I had a couple of bets before it started
Zhang Anda - each way
Kyren Wilson to win

both went out in the first round

so my apologies to @Hampden Park as I may have scuppered Zhao Xintong's chances

This next round could be final-defining.

These are a good semis.

That blue from Williams was something else.
