Let’s not forget Ayari could barely buy game time in The Championship last season and has proven a decent prem player. You do question who is deciding on these loans though? Stoke are miles away from the football we are looking to play, in fact not many champ sides are going to suit the profile of kids we buy. You’d think European mid leagues would be much more suitable.

I still think there's a lot of merit in these loans. JPVH developed so well at Blackburn alongside the likes of Wharton. Ayari similarly absolutely bossed his appearance in their fixture in the cup against Newcastle last season (https://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/24150486.brightons-yasin-ayari-impresses-blackburn-rovers/) and nearly helped a really weak Blackburn side through (they lost on pens, Ayari scored his). There's so many things to be learned on a loan, not all of which can be reduced to appearances in a similar strategic set-up. Understanding the grass elsewhere may not be greener elsewhere is also another massive byproduct that I'm hoping will help us to retain the likes of Buonanotte next season

In fairness, JPVH played a lot of games on loan, so it’s not really comparable, and for a Blackburn side that liked to attack.

Every season, Blackburn seem to start strongly, look like they might make the playoffs, then fall away, sack their manager and collapse.

It's also surprising to see how consistently poor Stoke have been in the last few seasons, considering how long they were in the PL and that theoretically they should have among the best club infrastructure in the league as a result.

We seem to love sending loanees to both these clubs, we've sent several over the years, presumably we have good connections with their recruitment teams. But it's not bearing been much fruit in the last couple of seasons.

Depends how you look at it. Van hecke and Ayari (both Blackburn) ain’t been too bad. Also if it helps us find out who’s not up to it then what’s the problem?
