My hope for this thread is not conclusion or agreement but it is a chance for people to level up their understanding about this subject. Shit like this ruling relies on people's ignorance on the Topic.

Time to get educated so we can support those affected by it.

I'd love it if everyone could just accept everyone else for who they are, but that's clearly not going to happen, for whatever reason (and no, I don't want to learn about why that is, either!)

A colleague of mine was spiked with rohypnol in a bar Brighton last night and spent the night in hospital having had her stomach pumped. I am incandescent with rage about this.

Unfortunately, the drug pretty much deleted her memory of last night but weirdly, she was with a big group of friends (including more than 6 male friends) and they didn't appear to be many other people in this smallish cafe-bar at the time. She is usually very prudent about protecting her drink.

The effect kicked in about 20mins after her first drink. Her friends gave statements to the police at the hospital who administered the Rohypnol test and who were, by all accounts, brilliant in supporting her.

It can't be ruled out at this very early stage that someone behind the bar put the drug into her drink. Because of this, I'm absolutely not going to share the venue publicly on this forum as I don't want any legal ramifications against NSC or any subsequent risk to the investigation being carried out.

If your acceptance for everyone extends to believing they can, then for one thing, you’re okaying the ruination of competitive female sport.

This is the problem. Both sceptics and believers alike could probably come to agreement about two things:

1. Some people want to live life as a woman when under traditional definitions of gender they are a man; and of course vice versa.

2. Being born as a man (under the traditional definition) gives advantages in sport and that's why women's sport does not allow people born under the traditional definition of a man to take part.

However, what we as sceptics are asked to believe is that either number 2 is not scientifically accurate, or else if it is accurate it should be ignored. Agreement to point 1 is possible, agreement to point 2 isn't.

Slight off topic, but I made a rare visit out for drinks into Brighton last weekend, I noticed how few police/bouncers there was compared to a few years ago.

I'm sure a lot is on CCTV footage, but the sight of a bouncer/police officer walking around would certain put off a lot of people from doing anything scummy

There are more door staff, Night Marshals, Safeguarding / medical Teams, MSU’s and Op Marble police in Brighton city centre than ever before.

Training is better on safeguarding and VAWG issues than ever before.

Unfortunately, the amount of men who feel it is their right to have access to someone else’s body, even if that means they take it by force or by spiking, has also massively increased.

Drug use has also increased leaving people vulnerable.

and the willingness of other members of the public to intervene has decreased significantly.

I have stepped down from working in the centre in the night time economy. It’s just too depressing. I’ve had enough of seeing young vulnerable people falling prey to sexual predators and people scrapping in the street, phone thefts, spikings etc.

It’s not a place I recognise from when I arrived here in 1997.

It has got worse for women and girls. And I include transgender women and girls in that definition.

I don’t know the answer to the gender issue.

It’s unlikely to be what happened today in the Supreme Court.

I honestly think the world left me behind.

Don't be daft, this court case has nothing to with 'trans kids' let alone having a go at them.


The Equality Act (2010) is now clear, and to be interpreted as was originally intended:

the EA 2010 seeks to reduce inequality and to
protect people with protected characteristics against discrimination. Among the people
whom the EA 2010 recognises as having protected characteristics are women, whose
protected characteristic is sex, and “transsexual” people, whose protected characteristic
is gender reassignment.

These protections still exist. Nobody has lost any rights whatsoever.

How do you think that situation would have come about, as that is certainly a cultural shift? I think people look down on the 'Lads' culture of the '90s, but that sort of behaviour wasn't acceptable even then, no means no and all that.

Well, I think as one of the few trans women on this board I should comment.

This will put members of my community in danger and it will cause harassment for gender non conforming women when they try to use the spaces they are legally entitled to use.

This will be the thin end of the wedge.

Why do you think it will put people in your community in danger or be the thin end of the wedge? The ruling doesn't affect the protections given to trans people, or do you just think people will misinterpret the ruling?
