He could but they're beholden to the drug companies

bingo!

A friend of mine's son works at Eli Lilly, a pharmaceutical company in Indianapolis. He told me about a party he went to at the Lilly's family residence north of Indy. If you think Trump & Tony Bloom live in luxury. He said he could never dream of the money the Lilly family have.

Medicines, Trump complaining that what costs $88 in London costs $1300 in America.

Says there are no pharmaceutical production in America, so the same producer that gets $88 in London gets $1300 when they sell it to America. Says this is because the UK and EU control the price, and set out that the manufacturer can only charge $88

Trumps solution, effectively tax the sick, by applying tariffs on the importing of medicines. So by levying a 25% tariff, the $1300 medicine now costs $1625, while it still costs $88 in London.

And to think he calls himself a genius.
This is not true. Whilst marketing authorisation is/can be conducted by the EMA (EU), pricing is at the country level. There is nothing to stop the US negotiating a lower price...if it can. For example, it's in exactly the same position as the UK when it comes to this.

The issue is more to do with their f***ed up health care system....the US has the highest health spend per capita on health in the world by a long way, yet one of the lousiest services on many levels. This high spend does not even adequately cover a large chunk of their population so you could make a case that the spend is even higher per person. Trump should be asking where all this money goes....not sticking tariffs on drugs.

Health expenditures per capita, U.S. dollars, 2023 (current prices and PPP adjusted)
  • United States. $13,432.
  • Switzerland. $9,688.
  • Germany. $8,441.
  • Austria. $7,811.
  • Netherlands. $7,737.
  • Sweden. $7,522.
  • Comparable Country Average. $7,393.
  • Belgium. $7,380.

Just pause for a minute and think about this........Switzerland and Germany are seen as leading public healrh care providers.....at a fraction of the cost.

Maybe our US based friends can enlighten us more on this?

Anyone who understands economics knows why American healthcare is so expensive.

* They preach "competition" but allow cartels to sell medicine at stupid prices
* They preach "competition" but fail to recognise the economies of scale that any national health service benefits from more-or-less offset the benefits of competition.
* If you force people to pay for health via premiums, then some people will end up not going to see doctor's to sort out ailments while they are trivial, leading to far worse illness later on in life. This then costs the economy in sickness days.

I am still not sure why Americans - with their retarded gun laws and lack of health cover - still genuinely believe everyone else wishes they lived in America.

Perhaps Americans cost more money to take care of because of the obesity epidemic in that country as well as the very, very poor diets.

And it's only going to get worse...

Another dissenting voice removed....The (female) Colonel in charge of the Greenland base that JDV visited, has been sacked - effective immediately.
US Military saying that it "would not tolerate any actions that go against President Trumps agenda"
Another step towards a totalitarian regime

I do think the bond market will play more of a roll in all of this but not “forgiveness”. China and Japan actually hold a reasonable power over the US economy…..and I feel Trump is only just realizing this.
Surely not. He almost certainly knows more about the bond market than anyone else and he loves those big, beautiful bonds.

Edit: I just saw a clip from the other day where Trump ACTUALLY said the bond markets were beautiful :lolol:

I may have missed it, but has his mate Farage been heard expressing an opinion since the tariff debacle.
He seems to be strangely quiet.
Didn't Johnson say a while back a Trump second term would be good for the world?
