I think they'll say 'mercenaries', nothing to do with Chinese government or military.
You’re probably right. A lot of Chinese used to work over the border in Siberia, possibly still do. So that could have been where they were recruited. I think Russia has also recruited mercenaries from India and Bangladesh - though the poor sods didn’t know what they’d signed up for or where they were going.

This war continues to throw up surprises*.

I wonder what the official Chinese response will be? My understanding is that Chinese involvement has always been at arm's length, low key and under the radar.
I would expect them to be mortified that Chinese nationals have been captured.

* But having thought about it, and seeing China's response to Trump on the tariff front, perhaps it isn't all that surprising?
I assume they were under Russian command?

'Ukraine triples its weapon production in a year' - The Economist.

'This year Ukraine expects to produce 5 million FPV drones'. (Last time I checked, that figure was 4 million).

Watch Prof. Gerdes from 1:15.

'

A good update thanks 👍🏼, quite funny in parts.
I noticed the US Defense Department is discussing withdrawing 10,000 troops from Eastern Europe - that would be another green light to Putin.

Is this China denying it, without actually explicitly denying it, in case it is subsequently found to be true?

Yesterday, amongst all the tariff noise, I read something that suggested they were looking into the validity of Ukraine's claims. Either they genuinely don't know about their own citizens fighting for Russia, or they were preparing the ground for today's formal denial/ not denial.

I read somewhere yesterday that one of the prisoners said HE paid Russia to fight for them! Gaining Russian citizenship in return ???

Good grief.

Either things must be truly awful in some parts of China, and/or the true awfulness of things in Russia has not filtered out to all of China.

P.S. 'I read somewhere'. Congratulations, you've passed the test. You're one of us now. ;)

Idiots guide in how not to invade.

If at first you don't succeed try and fail again.

This reads like an episode of Blackadder Goes Forth .................

Interesting report.
The Russian commanders have their orders to gain territory and will sacrifice unlimited personnel and vehicles in the attempts.
Russians wait until sunrise (6.30) to start their attacks 👍👏🏼.
Ukrainian surveillance drone operators are clearly critical to preparing Ukrainian defences.

Just the first minute is really interesting: it seems that the F16s supplied by Ukraine's allies are allowing Ukraine's older MIG jets to be deployed close to or even at the front lines. Hits on Russian positions (weapons stores etc) have been recorded in Bryansk, Donetsk and others.

Not sure if this has been posted before.. (courtesy of Mick Ryan, AM @WarintheFuture X post).
Piece written by Gen. Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Ukraine's Ambassador to the UK:

Extraordinary account of the transformational abilities of Ukraine's low-cost drone and electronic warfare capabilities.
And their DELTA battlefield management system is tearing up the rulebooks (Google for the military).
This bleak and terrible war has changed all wars forever.
