U.S. MAGA know-it-all gets politely schooled on how tariffs work, by expert.
Exactly, it will take years to move loads of manufacturing back to the US,and do CEOs feel confident in volatile US politics to make those huge investments.... overtime maybe, but not quickly. This is one aspect I don't understand, because the US relies SO much on China (and what it produces) that there is no way that it would be able to replicate the production network – nor produce the amount of stuff that the US needs. Especially not in such a short space of time. Trump keeps banging on about bringing production back and getting factories up and running, but that's a MASSIVE investment for companies – one that there is no guaranteed return.
Also, Trump and his cronies (especially that really patronising commerce/tariffs guy whose name escapes me – Ludnick or something?) regularly talk about how countries aren't taking their beef or chicken or whatever, but why would they? Why would, say, the UK, need another supply chain of meat when what it's got is perfectly fine? It's like the argument with cars. You don't see big Ford or GM trucks over here because a) they aren't fit for purpose and b) they are shitboxes compared to European/Asian models! I remember going to the US years ago and seeing an Audi Q7 and thinking it looked small over there. And it's a HUGE vehicle!
The US will start insisting on recognition of their regulatory standards as part of trade deals, not giving a shit for example that accepting hormone-injected beef or chlorinated chicken would be a disaster for any UK government. This is one aspect I don't understand, because the US relies SO much on China (and what it produces) that there is no way that it would be able to replicate the production network – nor produce the amount of stuff that the US needs. We could agree to the US opening their own butchers in the UK, selling only US meat, but with a huge UK government health warning poster above each store. Would that workThe US will start insisting on recognition of their regulatory standards as part of trade deals, not giving a shit for example that accepting hormone-injected beef or chlorinated chicken would be a disaster for any UK government.
This is the type of thing that Trump sees as “weak” leadership. Who cares what voters think? Just get the deal done (on my terms).
That really is my hope. Ultimately, the US only really needs to be cut out for a short period of time because Trump will be impeached and removed if everyone stands firm and the US economy really tanks. This might be the thing which reignites the backbones of the elected Republicans. I'm not holding my breath, but it could happen.Wouldn't it be wonderful if the rest of the world came together and found import and export solutions that worked for one another, thus enabling all to completely cut the US and its tariffs out of the loop.
Let the Orange one have his closed, self inflicted United States
Yes, that should do it.We could agree to the US opening their own butchers in the UK, selling only US meat, but with a huge UK government health warning poster above each store. Would that work![]()
In years to come when they're asked about their ordeal, will they recount their time with Hamas or Trump?
At the Republican dinner event @Greg Bobkin mentioned above
He proclaimed: "These countries are calling me up, kissing my ass... they are dying to make a deal..."
Summing up how countries were apparently grovelling, Trump claimed: "'Please, please, sir, make a deal. I'll do anything'."

Tariffs latest: Trump says countries 'dying to make a deal' are 'kissing my a**' - as 104% rate on China kicks in
Donald Trump has imposed a 104% tariff on some Chinese imports to the US, as well as further levies on around 60 countries he calls the "worst offenders". Listen to the latest episode of The World podcast - on when and why Trump's poll rating could drop - as you scroll.news.sky.com
I've just tweeted about this on X. A Trump supporter came back that there's loads of Tesla's in China. He appeared to not be aware they are built there and in fact half of the globe's supply of Tesla's are built there. Bless. He asks why the roads are full of Audi's BMW's and not Buick's. The answer Mr Simpleton is very obvious. THEY'RE SHIT.
Interesting paragraph from Max Hastings article on 3r April. This is good from Max Hastings on the current dismantling of US democracy through state capture. It’s easy to get lost in the scale of what’s happening.
Bigger? He's still got his eyes on Canada and Greenland, then?
Whilst it may seem silly, it's real-world emotive stuff like this which will turn the US public against Trump:

How the Nintendo Switch 2 delay explains Trump’s tariffs
Trump threw a blue shell at Nintendo — and the global economy.www.vox.com
I've been following a guy on the socials who has been cycling round the world for the last year. Hes been through some pretty dodgy places, and had some close run ins with people along the way. Hes about to fly to Hawaii, before heading over to cross the USA...and Im genuinely more worried about the reception / treatment he will get there now, than anywhere else hes been in the world so far....if his papers are even slightly irregular. Probably completely unfounded - but you just never know with this lot in charge now.Interesting paragraph from Max Hastings article on 3r April.
"Horror stories abound about the reign of terror being conducted against foreigners by America’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS). I was once interrogated for an hour at Detroit airport by an immigration official who made plain that she disliked Brits, was disgusted to hear that I had come to lecture, and became more so when I answered truthfully a question which I am sure she had no right to ask, about my fee. I have since heard of two British ambassadors who suffered matching experiences.
Now, DHS attack dogs are empowered by Trump, and it seems wise not to visit the US until his rampage ends."
You have been told, stay away.
How do they stop people driving over the border to Canada to buy them.I saw this meme on X over the weekend...

His THICKNESS really does know no bounds. If American cars were good they would sell a shitload in Europe. Who, with money, aspires to drive 90% of American cars. A Mustang or a Corvette maybe but one of these? He asks why the roads are full of Audi's BMW's and not Buick's. The answer Mr Simpleton is very obvious. THEY'RE SHIT.
Border control as the Switch 2 will then be classed as being imported. How do they stop people driving over the border to Canada to buy them.
They have a duty free customs limit of $800 so would need to be below that to legally take over the border into the US and not pay any duty, as I understand it. Although with the tariffs etc who knows if that will change.Border control as the Switch 2 will then be classed as being imported.
