This war continues to throw up surprises*.

I wonder what the official Chinese response will be? My understanding is that Chinese involvement has always been at arm's length, low key and under the radar.
I would expect them to be mortified that Chinese nationals have been captured.

* But having thought about it, and seeing China's response to Trump on the tariff front, perhaps it isn't all that surprising?

I think they'll say 'mercenaries', nothing to do with Chinese government or military.

Could it be that they are volunteers? Similar to the international legion Ukraine has?

Haha. I had the exact same thought, but I decided not to pre-empt anything !

Volunteers, as in risking their lives for no payment? I can't see that happening, especially as they are in Ukraine on the wrong side to be there for humanitarian reasons.

Either mercenaries or the 'official Chinese peacekeeping force, advance party '

No. With payment, same as Ukraine’s international volunteers.

Don't think so, I think Ukraine is respecting the 'no infrastructure hits' ceasefire?
I guess so. I admit to being rather confused - and I try to follow stuff very closely! So, Russia can do what it wants, and Ukraine is trying to respect the partial ceasefire...that Russia has refused 🤔. And the US of course does nothing negative against Russia.
Is that a fair summary, anyone?😬
