[Albion] What are the reasons for our awful injury record?

Got something to say or just want fewer pesky ads? Join us... 😊

What are the reasons for our awful injury record?

  • Training (Too or not enough physical, consistent, etc)

  • Playing style (High tempo, pressing, fast transitions, etc.)

  • Physical training (gym, conditioning, yoga, etc.)

  • Nutrition (Too low/high protein, fats, oils, carbs, vitamins, minerals, etc)

  • Age of the players

  • Aggressive opposition (bad tackles, etc.)

  • Players lifestyle (hobbies, other sport, etc.)

  • Bad luck

  • Pre-existing conditions

  • Equipment (Footwear, training kit, etc.)

  • Unsuitable playing surface (training ground, stadium pitches)

  • All of the above

  • None of the above (we don't have an injury problem)

  • None of the above (Disciplinary issues disguised as injuries)

  • Other (please specify)

i do think the modern day footballer is overly protected. no such thing as playing through an injury anymore. I know its not sensible but there is far too much playing it safe!

Someone somewhere is sat at home with one of these. I reckon it's Gus Poyet.

Could’ve sworn I’d seen in an article somewhere that FH had told the board to expect more injuries due to the players adjusting to his playing style over the course of the season, so that’s how I voted.

What are the reasons for our injury record? Select all that apply.

These must be considerations internally at the club, but it would be interesting to hear what you all think.
All of the above probably, but no-one on here knows anyway apart from the obvious ones.

I was told by a very good source that injuries were expected this season because of a marked change in training intensity - we'd gone from a slow stop/start highly tactical training programme under RDZ to a far more physical approach under FH.

A short while after I was told that, the same broad message appeared in either the Athletic or Argus, possibly both. That kinda suggests the club were keen to get a message out there to the fan base, which doesn't necessarily make it untrue.

De we know what the playing style is yet? Still trying to figure that one out.

I think he wants us to be a team that focuses on generating overloads in as many areas of the pitch as possible. This means having fast players able to exploit counter attack situations but also having a high-ish line to help gain those overloads in midfield when we win the ball back. We don’t have the legs for this in defence, which is why we concede so often on the counter. And I think the many youngsters up front and midfield sometimes struggle without a more experienced players (Groß) next to them to help with organisation and direction, which is why we often see the slow, ponderous build-up when the opposition let us have the ball. Then of course there are players like Adingra and Enciso who just continually make poor decision after poor decision, which kill a good percentage of our attacks.

its because of 'the process' which is what we are being told to 'trust'. I bloody hate it!

I don't think we can do anything about the first one

However how many players did we sign last summer who couldn't complete a full (or any) pre-season because we bought them with slight injuries, off the top of my head:

Gruda
MOR
Wieffer
Ferdi

They all had 'niggles' when we signed them. IMO that practice has to stop. IMO it's no coincidence that these players have since largely struggled for fitness. MOR being a bit of an exception due to common assault.

Rutter turned up with a slight niggle but that was playing for Leeds, he'd actually had a full pre-season with them.
Minteh got injured with us.

that change in policy wont last if one of those 4 turns out to be incredible in 3-4 years time. Imagine then if we had refused to sign because of an initial niggle!
