My Mum is 90 years old, frail and has poor balance. A constant worry to all of us but refuses a stanner lift or home help. She has had several severe falls in the past, including down the stairs and shattering her hip and breaking her nose in 2 places. So I get a call from my Sister in London about half an hour ago absolutely in a panic- she’s had a call from Carelink that my Mum’s alarm had gone off and they had not been able to contact her so were going to send someone round. My Sister’s now heading over to Mum’s with me on the phone, both of us terrified but I’m trying to keep my sister calm while she drives through heavy traffic.

She gets to Mum’s front door and sees the Carelink guy trying to access the house - neither of them can remember the code because now everyone is in full panic mode - me yelling down the phone “it’s *****!” So after several different ways of inputting the code, they get in. Then the phone goes dead. After a few deep breaths, I ring back. My Sister is about to head upstairs, no sign of Mum downstairs. Then she hears a faint shout … “I’m in the garden”.

She heads into the garden, and in the corner of the garden, in full sun, in her big stripy cotton pyjamas and wearing a large sun hat - is my Mum with her backside on the ground, legs in the air in collapsed sun chair. Smiling, largely unhurt, but completely stuck and unable to get up.

A sun chair that she had apparently just found dumped on the street near her house - (presumably because the fabric was rotting!) - and decided commandeer it for herself .

A happy an amusing ending to a day in the life of a 90 year old parent 🙄

Sorry to laugh, but you did say she was unhurt, and I really can see the funny side of it.

Apologies for laughing. Glad your Mum's OK if a little embarrassed. Guess your sister was straight round the shops buying her a new sturdy chair, after giving her a good telling off.

One of the reasons that I laughed was because it happened to me in France. I was sitting on the verandah of the mobile home, reading a book, glass of wine nearby, and suddenly the chair/sunbed folded up on me.
I shouted to my other half, but instead of rescuing me, he stood there laughing his head off, and then took a photo.

No, I'm not posting it here. :lolol:

I'm one of those people on the other end of the phone when someone activates their Careline, pulls the red chord in the bathroom or presses the button when the lift breaks down! Those no response calls are one of the most common ones we get & can range from a complete false alarm, to someone needing emergency help & everything in-between! My favourite was when someone had ordered a new mattress & leant it up against the hallway wall & went to work. Meanwhile elderly mum walks downstairs, knocks the mattress over & is now trapped! Completely fine but can't get up for love or money! Stayed on the line until daughter rushed back home & they were both laughing so much at the situation that they both ended up on the floor!!

It can be a very challenging job at times, so I'm really glad to hear this one ended with only damaged pride & a damaged deck chair!!!
