[Albion] Brajan Gruda, what does he do?

He’s clearly very imaginative, and has good technical ability. He needs to be playing just behind the strikers and in front of the central midfielders. He is never going to be a solution at RW, and continuing to play him there is frankly insane

I’m sure he will but we need some players who are already very good players, not some that will one day, be that.
That’s what O’Riley and Wieffer should be, IMO. They’ve got bags more experience and have played in European competitions. Hence why I’m a lot more underwhelmed by them than I am with Gruda

I thought he did alright when he came on yesterday. Certainly better than Pedro did and he is only going to get better (he has started to release the ball earlier which was my biggest annoyance with him)

We need someone like Gruda or Adingra to step up and turn potential into performance if we are to end the season strongly.

He’s not ready, IMHO, to be a starter at PL level. That’s fine, it’s not his fault, he’s only 20 years old. He reminds me of Buonanotte last year, desperately needs a loan.

He’s got potential. Not sure why he leapt ahead of Buonanotte. Maybe the loan should have been the other way around but that’s with the benefit of hindsight. Has been fortunate to get so many opportunities.

And this is the crux of my question, we've spent £30 million on a player here, who I do agree has a lot of potential and works very hard, I cannot fault his work rate or commitment. But I'm not seeing him contribute anything, I'm not seeing what he brings over Buonanotte, who is out on loan, seems like he needed some more development and he's been thrown in. A lot to prove the pricetag for me.

Yep , agree with the above , can’t believe we spent £30 million on him

Is it that he leapt ahead of Buonanotte, or is it simply that FB had time in the first team last season which resulted in lots of us saying he needs a loan, and now Gruda is going through that same first team trial process & we're coming to the same conclusion. Hopefully FB will come back to us after his Leicester loan a better player, maybe its toughened him up, and then after next season BG could come back from a similar loan as a better player. All about succession planning maybe.

One thing we have to remember about the 'young gems' we go for is that they would unlikely come to us at all if we told them they were going straight out on loan to a lesser league. When negotiating a deal with a Gruda/Enciso/Buonanotte type player its an easier deal to complete if we're saying to them 'you can either join us and go straight into the first team, or you can accept that other deal on the table from 'top 6 club' and sit on their bench/reserves all year'. If the options for them actually become choosing between going to Chelsea or signing for Brighton, but Brighton are just going to loan you to the Championship, then they may likely choose Chelsea. But when they do sign for us, and have a tough trial period in our Prem first team, its then easier to justify to them how a loan would be beneficial and keep them motivated about it. Some players might be fine with an initial loan, I guess it depends on the players attitude and their agent.
