[Albion] Would this squad be higher with De Zerbi?

The question is moot. Whatever you think the answer is to this hypothetical, the more telling question is do you think RDZ would have have kept his toys in the pram? No.
Do you think he would have taken responsibility for getting knocked out of the FA cup? No.
Do you think he would have seen the opportunity to grow himself as a coach? No.
Do you think he'd have seen a future with the club if he thought we might not qualify for Europe? No.
Do you think he'd align with Bloom and Barber on this summers transfer approach? No.
Does he have more potential than Hurzeler? No.

Did I just imagine the second half of last season where RdZ spent months sulking and we were utterly, utterly shit for week after week?

Because the way some on here bang on I feel like I must have done.

RDZ left because he knew the club would not relent on their transfer policy.
He wanted some players in their prime to supplement the experienced and youthful players.

Our best first team is lacking experienced premier league players between the age of 25-30.
The only players we have in this profile are, Pervis and Mitoma. 2 of our most overplayed players.

Wharton was the only player in Palace's starting 11 yesterday, who wasn't in that age/experience profile.

It matters.

I understand the club's policy and it is definitely helping us punch above our weight, but it is a hindrance for our managers.
He knew the club’s policy and strategy when he signed, but he was so arrogant he thought he‘d be able to change it, then had a hissy-fit when he realised he couldn’t.

No. I don’t actually think this is a particularly good squad.

It's probably the strongest Albion squad of all time - in terms of depth in every position.

It has been unlucky with injuries.

Would we be doing better under De Zerbi? Probably not. De Zerbi was lucky to have inherited a seasoned squad that Potter built.

Hurzeler does not have that luxury. He is considerably more adaptive than De Zerbi - and less of a prick.

Suspect De Zerbi would be sulking by now and we'd be in free fall.

Yes, we go through all the ups, downs and inconsistency for two years, then flog them and so it starts again. The food chain.

It'll be the same with Fab. He'll refine his craft and then just as it clicks, he'll go. It will be quite interesting to see if Bournemouth, Palace, Brentford and Fulham can hold on their managers if a 'big' club makes an official approach. I have this gut feeling that they will put up much stronger fight than we do.
All four clubs you mention arguably and currently have more desirable managers than we do? If a manager wants out it nearly always happens too. No point in fighting it imo.

No.

We haven't done anything he wanted, and we'd hear a weekly heartbreaking press conference about Pascal Gross being replaced by some relegated kid from Leeds.

First and foremost, the club didn't sign what De Zerbi fans considered a must for De Zerbi success: multiple world class players in their peak ages.

According to pretty much all threads last season, he couldn't help us from being a bottom team over 30 games unless we signed ready made like-for-like replacements for the injured wingers and the sold midfielders.

To the despair of some, Brighton can't operate like that, and needed a manager who can make a football team perform without signing world class players. It is necessary because our model is to buy top young talent and develop it over the line.

To any set of functioning eyes it was visible that neither club nor team was particularly harmonic last season and regardless if you understand it was De Zerbis fault or pretend it was Tonys, the rift was there for all to see. While I haven't yet read the comments in this thread, I can't imagine even many of the biggest Zerbi fanatics thinking it would have been a sensible idea to keep going.
What about Potter? I dare you.

It’s absolutely nowhere near the strongest of all time. Depth isn’t just about quantity of players.

Along with Wharton at Palace, now an England international, you have Rogers at Villa, the same, bought from the Championship.....right age and experience of English football, albeit in the Championship, but have improved in the EPL .

I maintain that it is probably the best of all time.

We have at least two quality players for every position.

Mitoma, Georginio, Pedro, Minteh, Adringra - we have never had a front line like it, even before mentioning March who is easing his way back into the squad.

I'm sure you could argue that the midfield and defense has been better in the past, but we have NEVER had the depth of quality in every position like we do now.

Yeah - this wasn't a pro - RDZ post.

It was pointing out, that this squad is no different to the one RDZ walked away from.
It is still lacking what RDZ claimed he needed to push on.

So no, I don't think RDZ would have done any better with this squad.
