I think the midfield has been more organised defensively since the Forest defeat, so the back 4 are less exposed. As well as being a bit quicker, Webster has always said he prefers playing on the left of the centre-back pairing and it really seems to suit him. Not so sure Lewis is as comfortable there.

Odd that when Dunk and Webster played together that Webster was Right and Dunk was Left then.

Yes. It is odd. When he joined us, Webster said, “I prefer to play in the left side of defence, but I’ll go anywhere as long as I’m out there on the pitch.”

I seem to remember Potter mostly playing him on the left around the time he was being linked with an England call. May be wrong. I think it was De Zerbi who preferred him on the right.

I suppose Lewis like the left too but I don't think his left foot is as good as Webster's.

No - he's always played on the Right when he's played with Dunk.

I've always thought that Dunk is our most competent LCB but his natural position is RCB. He was at his best there when Colwill played at LCB and I think that the club have been trying (and failing) to find a top-quality left-footed-CB partner for Dunk since.

I'm a big fan of Igor but whilst he is a fabulous squad player, he's never broken down the door to be a regular starter. Cashin will hopefully grow into that role and be that player...

I take the point, probably getting confused with Dunk switching to the right of a central pair under De Zerbi. He has played on the left of Dunk in a 3.

So I was wrong to say Lewis is less comfortable on the left - seems he prefers it too. However, it's a fact Webster also prefers playing there, seems to thrive there and, I think, has a better left foot. The position seems more natural to him.

Yeah it's an odd one.

I always felt Dunk was slightly better on the right.
I wasn't aware that Webster preferred the left.

Seems strange that they never swapped sides, when playing together (or if they did, I don't recall it)

I wouldn't be surprised if Casin turns out to be another Matt Clarke. Bought as cover wouldnt be surprised to see us bring in a left sided centre half in the summer and loan Cashin out

That’s why it sats this :

The cut-off point for such suspensions is the quarter-finals and beyond.

Cards are wiped at the QF stage so we’re fine if we make the semi.

Ah. I read that differently. So the slate is now wiped clean and the card count restarts with the QF?

That’s why I understood and have read……will try to find a link with unambiguous wording

Edit….here’s one

Post Quarter-Final: After the FA Cup quarter-final stage, a player’s yellow card tally is wiped clean. This ensures no player can miss the semi-finals or final through suspension.

It would make a lot more sense. I’ll also re-read it when I have finished my morning coffee….things are usually clearer for me then!

Unfortunately, I don't think that article is correct. The wiping of the yellow card count is AFTER the quarter-final, ie if a player picks up a second caution in the quarter-final they WILL be suspended for the semi-final (however, it does mean that a caution earned in the semi-final will not prevent a player featuring in the final).

The FA Handbook hasn't changed (in this respect) since last season when Coventry's Kasey Palmer did indeed miss the semi-final against Man United because of a caution (the second in the competition) earned in the quarter-final.

So, all of Webster, Georginio, Baleba, Gomez and Veltman are in danger of missing the semi-final should we overcome Forest.

Potter tended to play Webster on the left and White on the right, with Dunk in the sweeper position when we played a 3/5 man defence in the 2020-21 season. Dan Burn then became the worlds tallest wing back.

When it's just been Dunk and Webster though it's almost always been Dunk on the left.

Thought he was fine today, not lighting to the world on fire but consistent and was one of our betters players.

Cashin/Dunk next week does worry me. Wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a change of armband next season but the lack of leaders in this team is costing us.

Its not just his ability that worries me, it's his leadership. We seem really resilient without him, but soft as shit with him.

For a tall man he’s always been really bad a dealing with big, physical centre forwards. That was evident on the first goal. For the second goal we were just all over the shop. How Munoz had the space he did, when they weren’t even coming forward particularly quickly, is beyond me, and I don’t know if that was a lack of organisation or people just not doing their jobs (Mitoma I am looking at you), but whatever it was, something was deeply amiss there.

Dunk was one of our better players today. It wasn't a game where our centre halves were tested often

Hinshelwood made a run and then got muscled off the ball. Players moved across to cover which gave Munoz the space to run into.
