Came on last night, and just barrelled into people. I think he gave away 3 cheap fouls in the short time he was on, which Villa clearly took their time with and eased the game down.

I think he'll be pretty high on the list of players, FH isn't in a rush to give more minutes to
Yep. I said it out loud and someone near me said ‘hes just trying to get involved’ 🙄

I don’t like to trash players but I do wonder what our scouts were thinking when we signed O’Riley (and Cashin) and brought them straight into the first team.

I also cannot see why Fab keeps putting him in when there are better options on the bench - he continually looks out of depth and uncomfortable and fails to make an impact in a crucial position on the pitch. I could say he runs like a duck too but that would be mean so I won’t.

I’m confused as to why we didn’t keep Enciso (who could have played deeper) and send O’Riley out on loan in January. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Really? He gave away a silly foul, everyone seemed to be. But he played a couple of very good passes through the lines which no-one else appeared capable of doing for the previous 200 minutes of Amex football this week

I don't think we can blame our scouts. In the case of Cashin, it's widely known that he's a data signing. Apparently the data loves him, but scouts aren't so keen. I seem to recall that we recently let go of some scouts in favour of our data, so presumably this is the way we are going.

I think that was the problem, he was so desperate to get involved and make an impression he lost composure and made too many wrong decisions when he had better options than just throw himself into a challenge.

I thought all our signings use both - we don’t sign players just on data alone or scouts alone - I assume one consolidates the other. Even if the data says this player or that player is a goddam prodigy - we’ll have scouts on the ground having an input.

I have no issues signing either O’Riley or Cashin and the data (scouting reports) may well point to both players having a potential to reach the level we need - I am not sure however why we preferred either player for the first team to some we sent out on loan or sold since last summer.

Cashin looked positively pedestrian last night and O’Riley yet again made a meal of ploughing into defenders instead of demonstrating a bit more football intelligence and better decision making. He seems like a very likeable chap though and probably easy to work with 🙂

It sounds like possibly in this case the scouting concerns were secondary to the data highlights. As this account highlighted, this could be a good test to see who wins out - the scouts or the data.

It's funny, but most times people will say "there's definitely a player in there" but in all honesty, I've yet to see anything from him that suggests he's the player we thought we were buying, even considering his injury.
I dunno, he showed some signs with the City goal and then a few games after that, where he created chances.

Unfortunately, he’s an attacking 10, playing for a side that has 8 of those, in a system that used 2 of them at the start of the system and has now reverted to using one. We’ve also signed Gomez since who looks good.

It’s just not going his way.

I know it's fashionable to write new players off after a few hours of playing for us, but I've been pleasantly surprised with O'Riley so far this game.

Clearly not had a run in the team or built partnerships yet, but he's got a good work rate, chasing well and put some dangerous balls in.

Clearly can hold his own at this level, which is always the first test of a new player.

Less creative than someone like Gruda or Rutter, but has some good aggression and zip with is more needed in some games.

Hopefully with some more game time he can start to build partnerships and get some more link ups / goals.

Barely noticed him on the pitch tbh. No where near the threat of Pedro.

Yeah obviously nothing on Pedro, but he's not Brazil's number 9.

But gives me a little more confidence we've got backup if Pedro gets injured with Rutter already out for the season by the looks of things.

He was fine. Not sure about the decision to start him though.

Didn’t play like Brazil‘s no.9 after he came on did he?
