What i particularly like about this thread is the people looking out for a result over 20 f***ing years ago to justify us not being bottle jobs.
It's not that at all, it's the fact that he is quoting two games that we apparently bottled but actually won the the tie so how could we have bottled those two games

Key injuries this time.

That Villa squad/eleven appeared to contain every single ‘name’.
Yet they’re in the Champions League.

We are down to bare bones and they are playing more games and are not.

Makes you wonder.

We've won a few big games. We've lost a few big games.

'Twas ever thus.

ok, so what about the other 15 or so examples I gave- do they not indicate we have a significant challenge in Key/big games too often?

I'm making the point that in "key games" we continually under perform and its a worrying part of our DNA...

First couple of posts bang on. We absolutely are bottle jobs. Very Spursy. Loser mentality.

Villa spent obscene money on wages and fees, they have virtually everyone available, whilst we were a makeshift Dad’s Army. Tonight was a nailed on Albion loss. Similarly, expect a loss at Smellhurst.

We’re a lower mid-table club in terms of combined wages/amortisation cost, yet are 8th. Above mega spending West Ham, Spurs and Manure.

Being knocked out by Abu Dhabi and Manure at Wembley, who isn’t? With Chelsea the biggest spenders on the planet.

To go to the non “bottle job” level you want, TB will need to invest far more somehow, to give us Newcastle and Villa levels of squad to cater for all injuries. RDZ and now FH are being hurt by the realities of being at a club our level.

To benchmark, three months ago Bmuff, Fulham and Brentford were lauded as potential CL. Now they suffer the same fate.

They’ve bought/borrowed a load of lauded ‘names’, I remember when they bought Pau Torres secret Villa fanboys here creamed themselves over their incredible signings. They have that in huge numbers whilst we’re part very much work in progresses.

Their Sept 24 squad is miles better than our Sept 23 squad.

One legit question …. why do we get so many injuries? Last May RDZ haters with spies at Lancing HQ solely blamed him. So what’s the reason in 2024/25?

try again - Swindon won 2-1 in 2nd leg at withdean... 1-0 in 90 mins and then finished 2-1 to swindon AET. We scored in the last secs to lose 2-1

Scoring in the last secs to lose 2-1 is quite the opposite of bottling in it, when that goal equalised the aggregate score and saw us win on penalties.

When Adam Virgo scored that very memorable goal, I certainly didn't think we'd bottled it

And as for the Millwall quarter final - really? We may not have won in 120 mins but we came from 2-0 down to go on to win on penalties.

You may want to look up the term bottle jobs before spouting utter nonsense

Stop coming up with these sensible posts it’s upsetting the OP and his wallowing in drivel

Give me the examples of when we have been absolute bombproof consistently in big/ key games... I'm making a point that we don't seem to do particularly well in these tpyes of games when there is defining consequences of getting a result.. (with today being yet another example) - Do you genuinely feel like we are reliable in key games to get a result consistently more than we lose? - I just don't see it happen enough... we are more likely to come unstuck.

I am not going to waste my time …I’ve seen plenty of posts already disproving your wallowing 😂

Fa cup 3rd 4th Round games are not "key" games in my opinion. Fulham and bournemouth weren't as big as Tonight. we can get 5pts clear of villa and basically bury them in the race for europe - As usual, Albion don't turn up.. We just seem to crumble continually in these types of games.. Keep talking about 8 cup finals left.. Well based on our long ongoing history, I don't fancy our chances much...

FA Cup 3rd and 4th rounds are very much key games, given its a knockout competition.
You can lose a league game like tonight but still go on to achieve the target.
You're simply picking and choosing 'key' games which we've lost rather than acknowledging key games we've won
