I find whoever I insure my cars with tries to stitch me up on renewal. I have given up arguing with them as I always find a much cheaper equivalent quote on Compare the market and I can no longer be arsed to speak to the shysters who take me for a mug EVERY year. Start my search 28 days before the previous insurance expires.

I live in hope that just one of the companies will one day give me a competitive quote on renewal…
This is normally the case but I've found for the last couple of years running that the renewal price has been competitive to the open market - I believe with Tesco Insurance.

Direct Line last year £156. Renewal cost £233 this year. Aviva this year with the same cover £141

16 year old Fiat 500 fully comp.

I have no idea if Direct Line would drop the price on a phone call but I have no intention of asking them, I am just switching.

Same experience here. Car insurance is down compared with one year ago. However, I always check on a comparison site before taking out a policy. This year, none were cheaper than my existing insurer, so I phoned them to accept the quote. The nice man said "so you're happy to go ahead with the renewal at that price then?" I said "yes please, unless you can knock a tenner off for me, ha ha"
Nice man "Let's have a look" tap tap tap " I can reduce your renewal price by £26 - is that OK?" Me "Oh yes" or to be more accurate "Every Little Helps".

My L&V renewal came through last week and my renewal cost is about 10% cheaper than last year.

So I rang the Co-op who have told me the renewal is based on all the same information as last year, which hasn't changed, and is correct. Thus my insurance has dropped 40%. Not complaining. The bloke sounded almost annoyed when I kept querying it.
