[Albion] Albion season ticket holders at Gillingham

I've had one at all four, although the Goldstone and Gillingham (and the first half of the Withdean years) I was a child so can't claim superfan points, dad bought them.

Also think we might only have bought the ST for the second Gillingham season in anticipation of coming back to Withdean, but still went to most games.

Ohh a card! Mine was a book of individual tickets that you tore off and handed over. This was in the early 80s: 81/82 and 82/83 iirc. At the back was a special voucher that I could use to buy a Cup Final ticket if we ever reached it. How we laughed.

An interesting story about Gillingham was that the turnstile operators and those doing the counting of money were all employed by Gillingham. There was feelings that the attendance was being deliberately shown as lower and money being syphoned off.

After a month of this, Knight asked that before the crowd was announced it was to be brought to him in the directors box. Anyway they came up and told him it was 1700 and something to which he nodded and the said 'try again'. They looked a bit bemused until he told them he had placed clickers outside each turnstile block and he knew it was nearer 2000 and something. Funny enough they later said there was a block they had forgotten to count!

The attendances reported for the first two league games were identical.

So £70 for the terrace behind the goal - even cheaper than I remembered. One thing's for sure, we weren't paying for the bogs in that stand, they made the Goldstone's seem like something you'd find in Buckingham Palace !

Just doing some research, but does anyone have any idea of how many season ticket holders we had while exiled at Preistfield from 1997-99 ?

Based on my research, chatting to fans here and there, I estimate about 10,000.

Never quite understood why every match our coach had to have a police escort from an industrial estate in Rainham to the ground. I mean it was a bit of a dive but only saw issues a few times

Didn’t have a season ticket and went to most games. POTG was the norm back then. I still have the hump that the Albion paid for the Gordon Road Stand redevelopment too.

If that is true then it's a shame the police were not brought in. It's either theft or fraud

I had one in the second year at Gillingham. First year I just paid my £8 at the door. Had a season ticket at all four grounds

That's me too. No ST last year at Goldstone either. Those were the two years I had to work every few Saturdays so POTG. Only 2 years I didn't have one since late 80s.

I was there that day but you obviously weren't if you think we only had 1,500. We were allocated and sold 3,300 I believe, with more paying touts a tenner for the £6 tickets.

Whatever happened to storming Norman Rae? Used to drive the minibus/coach to away games and he used to sit just in front of me at Withdean. Not seen him in years.
