A mate of mine, Egyptian, tells me that his branch of Islam (one of the big two, I forget which) allows that you can eat if you need to, for health.
This was his excuse for eating when he was hungry, and doing his PhD and needing to be sharp and focused.

Anyway, it is what it is.
