I was getting concerned with the Padres rattling through 4 pitchers before Sale was taken off the mound

The Padres were very impressive last night vs Braves, their batting line-up is solid and Pivetta pitched very well.

I like the Tatis 1st innings first at bat check swing that pinged past 1st base for a double.

Catching up on Discovery+.... ridiculous from The Yankees & Aaron Judge against the Brewers... First team ever in MLB to hit first 3 pitches for Home Runs, and Judge with 3 HR and 8 RBI.

Can't stand the Yankees but Judge is just immense. Those RBI figures are even better when you consider he was also intentionally walked in at least one inning.

What is the ‘torpedo’ bat?​

The “torpedo” bat – so named due to its shape resembling a torpedo – is a customized bat that tailors the barrel for each hitter. Gone is the standard swell of the bat as it’s replaced with more wood in the barrel shifted closer to the hands.

It’s all about locating a hitter’s so-called “sweet spot” and moving more wood to that area – and because every hitter’s sweet spot is different, so too is their “torpedo” bat.

The Yankees analytics department looked at every player’s hitting data so that the widest part of the bat – or the barrel – could be placed where they most often hit the ball.

For shortstop Anthony Volpe that meant moving the barrel closer to the label on his bat, according to YES Network commentator Michael Kay. Volpe’s teammates Jazz Chisholm Jr., Cody Bellinger, Paul Goldschmidt and Austin Wells were also swinging torpedo bats this weekend.

I get that... but as a tourist they were the only game in town when we were there, so I have a sort of affinity.

We saw Pineda pitch 6 no-hit innings against the Marlins, and A-Rod in his dotage. Not the greatest spectacle but hugely entertaining event all round.

Don't have any other affinity, so this one sort of sticks for now.

The NL West is absolutely insane this season. Going into Friday's games the D'backs had the fourth best record in baseball - and were fourth in their division!

It would be remiss of me not to highlight Eugenio Suarez' incredible four-homer game for the D'backs against the Braves on Saturday evening (a game I had contemplated attending but ultimately decided not to). Four-homer games are even rarer than perfect games (Suarez' feat was only the 19th such occasion in MLB history - there have been 24 perfect games). Just a shame that the D'backs somehow contrived to lose the game.
