Back in Sussex
On 8th March 1986 Glenn Cockerill waltzed through the Albion defence to score as Southampton went on to beat Albion 2-0 at the Goldstone in the FA Cup quarter-final.

No one in that day's bumper crowd of 25,069 would have guessed how long it would take before Albion reached that stage of the world's greatest cup competition again.

31 seasons came and went. During that time Albion were knocked out of the first round seven times, the second round three times, the third and fourth rounds nine times each and the fifth round on three occasions.

Albion dropped through the leagues, lost our beloved Goldstone, nearly didn't exist, went to Gillingham, returned to Sussex in temporary lodgings and, finally, found a place to call home again.

And then, in 2018, Albion reached the FA Cup quarter-final. The following season we went one further and reached our first semi-final since that incredible day at Highbury in 1983.

Today, we compete in the FA Cup quarter-final for the fourth time in eight years.

From 1901 to 2017 we reached this stage twice.

Whether you were at the Goldstone in 1986 or not, enjoy today - these really are the very best of times to be an Albion fan!

Right Here, Right Now
Seems like a good opportunity to recall the biggest surge on the North Stand I can recall.

That was my first ever game. I was 14 years old standing near the top of the North stand with my mates, don't ask me how but when the celebrations had calmed down I found myself nearer the bottom of the North stand without my mates... :lolol:

Mansfield Woodhouse, actually.
I travelled down for the game having been there I think four or five days previously for the Peterborough replay. Was in the North Stand right behind Peter Shilton.
(Shilton wasn't actually on the terrace...)

Can't wait.. .just hope the result is not down to a dodgy decision or stupid foul.

The '83 quarter final, I remember watching the referee go to the linesman and I was having kittens. The '86 one, Albion were never in the hunt. Southampton won that in second gear.

It occurs to me that if I was the same age as I am now in 1983, I would have been born in 1927.

I think there's probably quite a lot of us on here who have been to all the FA Cup Quarter-Finals our beloved club has ever played in. Today does mean I have to update my NSC signature, though. Dammit.
