It has been suggested that a breathalyser is attached to his (Hegseth) phone, to prevent him using it when inebriated. Which seems to be often.
To paraphrase Marina Hyde slightly..perhaps Hegseth got a bit excited after a liquid lunch and waded in on the group chat assuming they were all about to bomb down to Hooters.

My biggest question though is, Why are we trying to rub shoulders with these guys? They insult us at every opportunity. They put a levy on our steel, which as we speak has gone unanswered and to cap it all, we are told that we are apparently not doing our bit in terms of defence and to up our game. Why are we putting up with this?

In return we have offered a second State Visit and stand by the sentiment that we have a "Special relationship" which has never been stronger. Its time for those in power to wake up and grow a backbone.
Because we aren’t a nuclear power without the US onside. Or have any security services. GCHQ and the NSA are essentially the same entity. It’s why we can’t be as hardline with Trump as our European neighbours can (and I suspect most in Whitehall would like to be). Disentanglement over the long term probably needs to happen, but it’s essentially unravelling everything that’s happened since 1945. It isn’t happening by a week on Thursday.

Tulsi Gabbard claims that the information discussed in the Signal chat was not classified.

FFS

The committee asked 'If it's not classified, why can't you share it with the committee?' and Gabbard had no response.

Of course it's classified, it specified details on a US military operation before the operation took place. It was extremely sensitive before the operation, but even now it remains classified because it detailed weapons and methods used.

The mental gymnastics they’re performing are quite something

It's the simplest questions that are always the best and most effective.

Like when Wyn Williams simply asked Paula Vennels in the PO Inquiry 'Why?' about something. She was completely stumped and couldn't answer - because whatever she said would drop her in it.

I was watching the congress meeting on BBC news Tuesday and when the woman said that nothing was classified I thought that simple statement meant it could be released without any redress regarding law (even Bozza has no worries here).
But, as mentioned, it so reminded me of the PO when she still refused to say what was in the Signal chat.

Incredibly they are going to bullshit their way out of this. The fact that the journlist could be working for the KGB who I'm sure would be delighted to pass the details on to the Houthis seems to be neither here nor there to them.

It simply comes down to the US democratic system and what can be done about a president and political party which is off the rails. Trump and his team can break all the US laws in existence and their punishment is determined by their own party.

The US system is broken.

The reality is that Team Trump can continue their campaign of lies, nonsense and bulldung because THEIR audience believe them completely. The people who are convincable aren't interested and it doesn't matter at this point anyway. Had this happened in September/October 2026 then maybe it would have had an impact on the Mid-Term elections but it won't have any impact at all. It's obvious to anyone paying attention it's a massive clanger but those people simply don't care.
