[Help] Jury Service.

My wife has just received a Jury Service letter requiring her to serve from May12th for at least 10 days.
Usually, this would have been no problem, but she is waiting for an important operation, date as yet unknown, but she has her pre op appointment in about 10 days time, so it may not be long after that. However, that cannot be guaranteed. I know she can reply on the form and request a postponement and give alternative dates, but even this is tricky as she cannot be sure when the hospital may call her. Could be sooner or later.
Has anyone had experience of this kind of thing and any thoughts or advice would be gratefully received.

My friend was recently called for jury service, and had similar problems with when he could do it & wanted to postpone the dates. Obviously it might depend who you get to speak to but he said when he called the contact number they were very understanding, appreciative that he'd even called (as apparently lots just ignore the letter) and were very helpful in sorting options for postponed dates. So maybe give them a call to describe your situation, if you havent already.

I replied that I couldn't make the dates, receiving alternative dates soon afterwards.

I'm sure that if the service coincided with a hospital stay, even at short notice, they would accept the medical stuff taking precedence. Morning one in the jury waiting room there were dozens of folk, plenty of 'subs' to cater for issues.

Sounds very harsh, seems like whoever was making the original decisions to make her attend and miss the start of university wasn’t using common sense.

I think it's that so many people try it on to get out that they blindly reject every first representation to get appeals they actually need to consider down to a reasonable number.

Thankfully I have never been chosen to do it, i would be gutted by being a grand down on the deal I would be crying if chosen for 2 weeks
