I take it you would rather Ukraine falls and a few years down the line a stronger Russia goes to war again, maybe against Nato. If USA really does turn its back on us Russia will be far more confident.
Well, quite.

Putin probes for weakness. He dares people to oppose him.

I think Putin will be taking much note of how NATO responds to his warmongering and demands.

Obviously Ukraine is not a NATO nation but NATO will obviously have a part to play in keeping Europe safe from Russia.

Europe is looking strong but way too late.

If NATO had bolstered troops on their Russian borders and Europe had sent troops to Ukraine when Putin troops were massing at the Ukrainian border, there’s a very good chance Putin would not have invaded.

We can NEVER back down or bow before Putin. He must be challenged, defied, and defeated at every turn.

There is simply no palatable alternative.

I don't think the plan is for Trump to militarily defend them.

I think he wants to take ownership of them, in similar way, french companies own some of ours, sell Ukraine electricity from its own reactors and use them as leverage against Ukraine if needed.
Whatever Trump’s intentions are I’m sure we can rely on a clear explanation from his press Secretary - the lovely Caroline Leavitt. What a ghastly, smug, arrogant, patronising woman.

Steve Rosenberg’s latest summary of the Russian press is along the lines that (not surprisingly) Russia welcomes Trump’s approach to peace because Russia hasn’t had to move an inch and Trump asks for nothing in return. Obviously written for the domestic audience but interesting to see their take on it.

On a lighter note (sort of) the cover of the latest Private Eye carries a picture of Putin under the heading “Russia demands to keep captured territory…………..including the White House”

Warburg. His analysis is so interesting, I’ve not seen anyone else connect Zaporizhzhia’s energy output to mineral extraction.

Really good thanks.
It wouldn't surprise me at all that , if the US took control of the Zaporizhzhia power station, they would either charge very high prices to deliver to Ukraine, or simply pipe it to the Russian side 🤷🏼‍♂️.

Still, it's not great having the Russians in control as now, and...I have no idea how the electricity is currently distributed.

I don't think it's currently generating any electricity, at least I think I read that, could be wrong of course !!

Thanks, you are right!
"Now, all of its siх reactors are in a cold shutdown. The plant does not generate power and relies on two power lines connected to Ukrainian-controlled territories for off-site electricity, compared to the 10 it had before the war. Both have suffered repeated disconnections due to Russian attacks."

Tomorrow’s front pages reporting that the UK is getting tough with Putin. Giving him a taste of his own medicine. 3 years late but I welcome someone finally growing a pair and getting tough with this modern day Hitler.

Watching BBC news re-heathrow closed due to substation fire. They are not saying what the cause is, arson etc. I will put this here now. The first thing that came to my mind is this is exactly the type of 'hybrid attack' that the Russians would carry out. We have seen it already here in Estonia with the Baltic sea cables being damaged.

Just as UK puts final touches in leading calls for Ukraine military force...... and Starmer just yesterday warned Putin about attacking those troops (as @The Clamp posted above)

Immediately thought "this is definitely Russia"

Several EU countries, including France, Poland, Sweden, Norway and Finland have published advice to citizens to assemble supplies they would need for the first 72 hours in the event that utilities were inoperable, and roads were blocked etc. For a breakdown of the measures advised by France, see here:
